We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Navigating the complexities of life often brings us face-to-face with difficult decisions. I remember a close friend who found herself in such a situation, grappling with the decision to have an abortion.

It was a time filled with uncertainty and emotional turmoil. However, the support and care she received from a local abortion clinic made a profound difference.

This experience highlighted the crucial role that these clinics play in providing safe, supportive, and non-judgmental care to those in need. Don’t be afraid to seek help like she did from these reliable abortion clinics in Toronto.

How much does an abortion cost in Toronto?

An abortion is free in Toronto as long as you have an insurance plan or OHIP coverage. If you don’t have either, the average cost is $900. However, your cost may vary depending on how long you were pregnant.

How We Chose

Qualified staff – We picked clinics that have experienced and qualified medical professionals, including doctors, nurses, and counsellors.
Confidentiality – We also chose clinics that implement strict confidentiality policies to protect their patients’ personal information.
Range of services – We evaluated whether they offer a range of services, including pre-abortion counselling, different types of abortion procedures, and post-abortion care.
Professionalism – We assessed whether these clinics have non-judgemental and non-discriminatory staff. We also looked at whether they respond quickly to calls and emails.
Accessibility – We checked whether these clinics are near major roads and public transit stations. We also considered whether they’re available on most days of the week.

Choice in Health Clinic (CIHC), established in 1988, is a non-profit clinic funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and regulated by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

One of the biggest things I appreciate about CIHC is that they can perform both medical and surgical abortions. Furthermore, they can also provide other important services like STI testing, miscarriage management, and counselling.

It’s also worth mentioning that they’re culturally sensitive and can perform the necessary ceremonial practices for Indigenous patients. Of course, they also practice the utmost confidentiality in all their services to protect their patients’ identities.

Sadly, as one of Toronto’s most trusted abortion clinics, they have a tendency to become fully booked quickly.

Pros

  • 36 years of experience
  • Can do both medical and surgical abortions
  • Can do ceremonial practices for Indigenous patients
  • Offers counselling services

Cons

  • Tends to get fully booked quickly
  • Sometimes forgets to respond to enquiries

For a hassle-free and quick abortion, the Bloor West Village Women’s Clinic might be worth a look. With a history of dedicated care, this all-female-staffed clinic offers both surgical and medical abortions, dilation and curettage (D&C) for miscarriage management, and failed medical abortion management.

A key reason why I believe they can provide hassle-free services is because they have an on-site pharmacy and lab. This ensures that any necessary tests are completed immediately and patients are able to receive their medications quickly after an abortion.

I should also mention that they’re willing to accommodate same-day appointments whenever a spot is still available. All of their patient records are also fully confidential and will only be shared upon obtaining a patient’s consent.

However, please take note that some former patients criticised this clinic for its unpunctual staff.

  • All-female staff
  • Located near a subway station

Cons

I’m so grateful to have chosen this clinic

“The Bloor West Women’s Clinic staff all treated me with kindness and fostered a comfortable and caring environment. I felt I was able to communicate all of my concerns and was taken care of in great hands. I love that all the staff are women, and I felt very relaxed throughout the entire process. The procedure was fast, the counsellor was very honest and kind and the post procedure resting period made me feel very safe. I was offered cookies, ginger ale, water, blankets and a hot water bottle. I’m so grateful to have chosen this clinic. It was also very minimally painful and very noninvasive!”

The Cabbagetown Women’s Clinic, established in 1989, is one of the oldest providers of safe abortion procedures in the city. Its all-female staff can perform both medical and surgical abortions, ensuring that their services are readily available for pregnancies that are up to 24 weeks of gestation.

While they may seem to be your typical abortion clinic at first, they have some amazing qualities worth mentioning. One such example is the 24/7 availability of their doctors when it comes to multi-day surgical abortions.

Since complications may arise during these procedures, having easy access to a trusted practitioner can be of great help.

Besides that, I’m also appreciative of the fact that they accept same-day appointments. Furthermore, their multilingual staff can speak languages like Mandarin, Romanian, and French.

However, they have a tendency to be fully booked quickly, so make sure to book your appointment ASAP.

Pros

  • Can do both medical and surgical abortions
  • Accepts same-day appointments
  • All-female staff
  • 24/7 doctor availability for multi-day procedures
  • Multilingual staff

Cons

  • Tends to get fully booked quickly
  • Pricey fees for uninsured patients

The most professional, welcoming and caring women I have ever met

“The women at this clinic are some of the most professional, welcoming and caring women I have ever met. I came in so scared as this was my first pregnancy and they reassured me everything would be okay and walked me through the whole process. I felt no judgement or fear. I am so grateful for the way the nurses and the doctors treated and accommodated me when I was at the most stressful and anxious point of my life. Bless their hearts. Thank you.”

East End Women’s Clinic, located in Scarborough, is an abortion clinic that’s operated by a team of highly competent staff.

With a medical director who holds over 20 years of experience in abortion care, this clinic specialises in medical abortions for pregnancies up to 10 weeks, IUD and Nexplanon insertions, and comprehensive counselling.

Personally, I think their “one-stop care” approach is what makes them great. A patient’s appointment isn’t limited to the abortion procedure itself, as it also includes a medical examination, an ultrasound, and a blood draw.

Furthermore, they also don’t require referrals to book an appointment. This is a huge plus for me, as it allows patients to freely book their appointments by themselves.

Sadly, since they only provide medical abortions, they’re unable to assist patients who are beyond early pregnancy.

Pros

  • One-stop care approach
  • Medical director has 20 years of experience
  • Offers counselling services
  • Doesn’t require referrals

Cons

  • Limited to medical abortions only
  • Inconsistent operating hours

A compassionate and supportive resource for women’s health

“East End Women’s Clinic is a compassionate and supportive resource for women’s health. Their professionalism and caring approach create a safe space for those seeking abortion services. Highly recommended for their respectful and non-judgmental care.”

The Mississauga Woman’s Clinic, established in 2000, is a prominent provider of reproductive health services in the Southern GTA. Located in Mississauga, this clinic offers both medical and surgical abortions.

If there’s one thing I can totally praise this clinic for, it’s its patient-centred care that goes beyond the abortion procedure. In fact, they offer telephone advice services to help those who are still unsure whether they’ll abort or keep their pregnancies.

MWC also offers counselling and post-abortion care to ensure patients can get the assistance they need throughout one of the most difficult points of their lives.

I also appreciate that they can directly bill most insurance companies, saving their patients the hassle of paperwork.

However, not everything is great with them, as patients complained about their unpunctual staff. Some patients had to wait almost an hour beyond their appointment before they were entertained.

Pros

  • 24 years of experience
  • Can do both medical and surgical abortions
  • Offers telephone advice
  • Offers counselling and post-abortion care
  • Can directly bill insurance companies

Cons

  • Unpunctual staff
  • Location a bit far from Toronto’s eastern suburbs

I felt safe in a non judgement, safe, caring space

“I can’t thank the staff enough at Mississauga Woman’s clinic. During one of the toughest days of my life I felt safe in a non judgement, safe, caring space. I wasn’t able to have a support person come with me but with my experience there were two other ladies who reached out and showed nothing but support and compassion.. not only is the staff supportive.. but so is everyone else in that building from my experience. So thank you Mississauga Woman’s clinic for supporting me on my worst days. But thank you to those two ladies who deserve the world’s biggest hug. Thank you❤️”
