Buying or selling property in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) is a major milestone, but the legal paperwork can quickly become overwhelming. If you’re a first-time homebuyer or a commercial developer, having the right legal counsel can make a big difference.

Now, finding the best real estate lawyer in Toronto means choosing someone who can protect your investment and steer you clear of costly surprises. To help you navigate this fast-moving market, we’ve listed here the local firms that you can trust.

Keep reading to meet our top picks, so your next property transaction is as smooth as possible.

How much does hiring a real estate lawyer cost in Toronto?

Hiring a real estate lawyer in Toronto typically costs between $999 and 2,500, depending on the complexity of the transaction. Some firms offer flat-fee packages starting at around $999 to $1,500 for standard residential transactions.

Transaction TypeTypical Fee Range (2026)
Standard Residential Transactions$999 to over $2,700
Average Homebuyer Legal Fees$1,000 to $2,500
Competitive Flat-Fee Packages$999 to $1,500
Fee Transparency: We evaluated how clearly each firm explains its pricing from the start. This helps clients budget for closing costs and avoid unexpected legal fees.
Communication Response Times: We tested how quickly legal teams respond to urgent questions and time-sensitive updates. Fast communication is important because real estate transactions often move on tight deadlines.
Partner-Led Oversight: We looked at whether experienced senior lawyers personally manage client files or delegate them to junior staff. Direct oversight can help catch important details that might otherwise be missed.
Niche Legal Capabilities: We considered firms with experience in complex matters such as assignment sales and cross-border transactions.

Website:https://www.ldlaw.ca/

Address: 1551 Bloor St., West

Contact: 416-747-9900

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM

LD Law LLP stands out for their 24/7 client support, serving clients across Ontario from their central office. So if you’re navigating urgent property deals, choosing this firm is a smart choice.

They’re particularly experienced in handling complex, non-standard closings that many other firms may be reluctant to take on.

Their senior partners, Daniel La Gamba and David, personally oversee client files. Thanks to this, their communication is always responsive, reducing stress during fast-moving transactions.

However, it’s worth noting that, as a smaller firm, scheduling delays can happen during busy periods such as the summer real estate season.

Pros

  • 24/7 client support
  • Senior partners personally manage files
  • Expertise in complex, non-standard closings
  • Fast, responsive communication

Cons

  • Possible scheduling delays during busy seasons

We used LD Law for the our first home purchase. Their professionalism, attention to detail, and dedication to ensuring everything went smoothly were outstanding. They were always available to answer our questions and provided clear guidance throughout the process. We couldn’t have asked for a better real estate lawyer. Highly recommend LD!

Address: 2 St Clair Ave West, Suite 700

Contact: 416-863-0125

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Mills & Mills LLP has Canada’s oldest family-run tradition in the field, having over 100 years of local real estate experience. They offer personal care and take the time to understand each client’s unique circumstances.

When we called about an investment deal, we appreciated that the lawyer quickly explained how buying the property could affect estate planning.

Instead of an assembly-line approach, they match you with one main contact who can even link you to in-house divorce lawyers if you need that support.

On the downside, their real estate team is made up of just four main lawyers, so they might be harder to reach during the busy spring market.

Pros

  • 100+ years of real estate experience
  • Individualized care with a single contact
  • Strong expertise in estate law integration
  • Specialized in cottages and farms

Cons

  • Small real estate team; might be hard to reach during busy times

Clear and helpful assistance

I have received consistently excellent service from Mills and Mills over the last ten years. Their consultation and assistance, particularly that of David Mills, on everything from corporate to real estate to contract negotiations, has been clear, timely and helpful!

I will be returning for future stuff

I was assigned to Ken for my legal needs and he was fantastic. He was completely transparent, and was able to connect with me in a timely manner. He broke down all of the legal terms in a way that I could understand and helped me tremendously with my contract. I will be returning for future stuff and recommend anyone to him!!! 🙂

3. Eran Gevantschniter

Website:https://eranlaw.com/

Address: 1 Dundas St. W., Suite 2500

Contact: 416-777-6788 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Principal lawyer Eran Gevantschniter personally handles every closing. He brings an international background as a qualified attorney from South Africa and is also a member of the Law Society of Ontario.

I like that he uses a clear flat-rate fee system, so you’ll know all the costs upfront with no surprises.

Working with him is convenient and efficient thanks to his modern tech setup, which includes secure electronic signing tools like DocuSign and the option for virtual meetings.

If you prefer visiting in person, there’s no problem at all, since he has a physical office near the Eaton Centre.

The only catch is that he runs this firm solo. This means that his schedule depends on his availability, which can be limited, especially during the busy spring market.

Pros

  • Work directly with the principal lawyer
  • Transparent flat-rate closing fees
  • Convenient Eaton Centre location
  • Expert in complex assignment sales

Cons

  • Limited capacity as a solo practitioner

4. Duensing Law, Lawyer and Notary Public

Website:https://www.duensinglaw.com/

Address: 393 University Ave., Suite 2000

Contact: 416-601-4769 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

We’ve heard many good things about Duensing Law, especially about its principal lawyer, Matthias Duensing. A lot of clients who went to him for estate sales said he was very organized and helpful.

This doesn’t surprise us since he was shortlisted by Canadian Lawyer Magazine in 2016 and is known for his unique niche as an independent professional trustee.

Matthias also uses an upfront questionnaire to collect paperwork early, which helps keep billable hours low. He speaks fluent German, so his services are especially useful for international buyers investing locally.

Just keep in mind that his practice mainly focuses on property and estates, meaning he doesn’t handle other legal issues like corporate tax restructuring.

And since he works as a boutique solo practitioner, his office has fewer backup resources during the busy summer season.

Pros

  • Handles both residential and commercial property
  • Expert in estate transfers
  • Bilingual (English and German)
  • Upfront questionnaire saves on costs

Cons

  • Focused practice areas only (no multi-department services)
  • Limited capacity during peak seasons

Customer Reviews

We were very pleased with the services provided by Matthias

We hired Matthias at Duensing Law as our Real Estate lawyer. We were very pleased with the services provided by Matthias. He gave us expert advice, was patient, thorough, responsive and was always available to discuss our various questions. Matthias was a pleasure to work with, and we will definitely come back to him in the future. We highly recommend Duensing Law.

Everything went very smoothly on closing day

About a year ago, Matthias Duensing prepared my Will and Power of Attorney. I was impressed with his thoroughness and attention to detail. Recently, I chose Matthias again to handle the purchase of my home. Everything went very smoothly on closing day and I’m happy he took care of my real estate transaction.

5. Charney Legal | Estates & Real Estate Lawyer

charney-legal-estates-real-estate-lawyer

Website: https://charneylegal.ca/

Address: 669 St. Clair Ave., West

Contact: 647-550-2918 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Thursday, 8 AM – 5 PM; Friday, 7 AM – 12 PM; Sunday, 8 AM –12 PM

Charney Legal is run by Avi Charney, who is dual-licensed as a barrister in Ontario and an advocate in Israel.

He also has a certificate in mediating complex disputes from Harvard Law School and a background in psychology. This helps him handle sensitive family property issues with empathy.

I love that he offers full bilingual support in English and Hebrew. Add to that, he can easily connect you with notaries public to take care of international paperwork completely online.

Something else we love is that his closing costs are always straightforward and transparent, so there won’t be any surprise fees.

Unfortunately, if you prefer in-person meetings or dropping off paper bank drafts, their digital-only workflow might not be a great fit for you. And since Avi works solo, his practice isn’t set up for really large commercial litigation cases.

Pros

  • Predictable flat-rate fees
  • Fully digital closings
  • Dual-licensed for cross-border cases
  • Bilingual (English and Hebrew)

Cons

  • Limited solo capacity
  • No physical office or in-person meetings

Customer Reviews

Everything was handled smoothly and efficiently

Avi was fantastic to work with on a real estate transaction. He was fast, responsive, and highly professional throughout the process. Everything was handled smoothly and efficiently. I would recommend Avi to anyone in need of a reliable real estate lawyer.

I highly recommend Avi for any real estate transaction

After dealing with a very complicated real estate transaction, my wife and I were looking for a lawyer who could get the deal done for us with no hassle. A family friend recommended Avi to us and he was able to close the deal with no issues. His professionalism, honesty, and the way he explained what was going on to us made us feel more confident in the purchase we were making. Without, Avi’s help we would not be able to get the property that we’ve always wanted. I highly recommend Avi for any real estate transaction.
