Exercise, But Make It Fun!: The Best Aerial Yoga Studios in Toronto

The standard yoga is great and all, but sometimes, I find it boring and repetitive. Whenever I get that feeling, I know it’s time to switch things up, and what better way to switch up than by doing aerial yoga?

This type of yoga features lots of silk fabrics and ropes, and you’ll be suspended mid-air most of the time! It’s so thrilling—definitely a memorable way to exercise!

If you want to experience aerial yoga, these are the studios I highly recommend.

The Flying Yogi

From: theflyingyogi

Address: 112 Jones Ave

Contact Number: +16479698152

Website

The Flying Yogi only does yoga retreats, so you need to dedicate a few days here. Don’t worry, though, the retreat experience will leave you properly relaxed, and soon after, you’ll want to come back!

The last time I attended, the yoga retreat was held in Yucatan, Mexico, which was far enough from home that I felt off-the-grid for a while. During the retreat, we did aerial yoga outside first thing in the morning, which was invigorating.

Pro Tip:

Can’t make it to the physical location of the retreat? This studio offers online yoga classes. Just make sure that you have the right equipment at home.

Aura Aerial Art Center

From: auraaerialart

Address: 30 Drewry Ave Ground Floor, North York

  • Monday—1 to 3 pm, 4 to 10 pm
  • Tuesday to Friday—1 to 3 pm, 5 to 10 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday—11 am to 6 pm

Website

What I love about Aura Aerial Art Center is that it doesn’t just focus on aerial yoga as a way to maintain general fitness. Sure, aerial yoga works well as a form of exercise, but it’s more than that; it’s also a way to express artistry and challenge your mind.

This studio also has classes for all difficulty levels. If it’s your first time, get the Beginner Aerial Hammock that teaches you how to deepen your stretching using gravity.

Then, you can move up to the intermediate and advanced classes that focus on core training, flexibility, and muscle endurance.

Pro Tip:

You can rent this studio for special events and/or meetings.

What I love about Mukti Studio is that the instructors really focus on attaining restorative peace via aerial yoga. Community is also important for them, so you can always find yourself amongst fellow aerial yoga enthusiasts.

Technically, beginners or casual yoga enjoyers are the main customers, but this studio also welcomes people who want a challenge. In particular, there are classes that focus on hatha and vinyasa yoga, two disciplines of yoga that are more physically demanding.

Pro Tip:

Are you a big fan of the classes here? You might want to subscribe to the studio’s membership program.

Hot Yoga Wellness Kennedy

While most yoga studios are air-conditioned to keep the interior cool, most rooms in Hot Yoga Wellness are infra-red heated. In other words, they’re set to body temperature, so students can enjoy therapeutic, detoxifying benefits without passing out from the heat.

The aerial yoga classes here focus on improving your strength, flexibility, and balance. They’re also easy to follow, so beginners are more than welcome here.

Pro Tip:

Is your child interested in trying out yoga as well? This studio offers kids’ yoga classes.

Altea Active Toronto

Address: 25 Ordnance St

Operating Hours

  • Monday to Saturday—5 am to 11 pm
  • Sunday—5 am to 9 pm

Website

Altea Active Toronto is a social and wellness club offering classes in all kinds of exercises. If you’re specifically looking for aerial classes, you can find them under the “Antigravity Fitness” section.

For aerial classes, you’ll be using hammocks, silks, and ropes to stretch your joints and muscles while being suspended in the air. The moves you’ll be doing for this type of yoga are challenging, but with patience and practice, you can master them in no time.

Pro Tip:

If you want to enjoy unlimited access to the studio’s classes (even the non-aerial yoga ones), consider becoming a member.

Brass Vixens

From: brassvixens

Address: 721 Queen St W #202

Operating Hours

  • Monday, Tuesday, and Friday—9:45 am to 9 pm
  • Wednesday and Thursday—7:45 am to 9 pm
  • Saturday—9:45 am to 3 pm
  • Sunday—9:45 am to 7 pm

Contact Number: +14169012848

Website

Brass Vixens is actually more known for its pole dancing lessons, but sometimes, it does offer aerial yoga classes. These classes are always fun, and you might even be inspired to channel your inner femme fatale energy!

Aerial 1 is the best class to get if you’re new to aerial yoga. This class covers all the fundamentals, especially getting upside down in a fully supported inversion and learning how to lower yourself on the floor.

There’s also an Aerial Yin class, which is focused more on improving flexibility and reducing stiffness while suspended in the air.

Pro Tip:

You need to bring your own yoga mat. As for your outfit, it’s recommended that you wear a shirt with sleeves and leggings because you need a barrier between your skin and the silks for your own comfort.

Star Dance Center

From: bee.aerialfit and stardancecentre

Address: 4750 Yonge St Unit 326

Operating Hours

  • Monday to Friday—5 to 10 pm
  • Saturday—11:30 am to 6:30 pm
  • Sunday—11 am to 10 pm

Contact Number: +16476895818

Website

You can come to Star Dance Center to learn how to become the best dancer you can be, but you can also go here to do aerial yoga.

The standard aerial yoga class is perfect if you just want to exercise and meditate. But if you want something more challenging, take the class on aerial dance flow, which is basically the merging of aerial yoga and dancing.

Still looking for an adrenaline-inducing session? The bungee fitness is worth considering. Be warned, though, because this type of exercise isn’t for the faint of heart!

Pro Tip:

If you want to host your own aerial yoga session, you can rent the studio for a few hours.

Dancing in Circles

From: dancingcircles_studio

Address: 52 St Lawrence St

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—9 am to 9 pm

Contact Number: +16479890581

Website

Located in the East End, Dancing in Circles is ideal for people who want to learn aerial yoga but aren’t comfortable in a crowd. This studio only offers private sessions; semi-private (with two friends) options are also available.

In this studio, you can take your aerial skills to a whole new level. Aside from using silk straps, you can learn how to use other tools like hoops in your aerial routines. By the end of a few sessions, you’ll definitely be a flexible and strong yogi!

Pro Tip:

This studio also has performers that you can book for special events like weddings and birthdays.

The Circus Fix

Address: 6 Carlaw Ave

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—10 am to 10 pm

Contact Number: +14168079707

Website

Technically, The Circus Fix specializes in circus classes, but these classes include elements of aerial yoga, so I can’t help but recommend it. Since this studio is all about circus training, expect to learn acrobatic moves that showcase strength and flexibility.

The aerial classes offer a wide range of lessons and apparatuses. Of course, silk fabrics and hammocks are the most commonly used, but the classes also include tools like hoops, aerial poles, and trapeze.

Because of this, you’ll definitely feel like an aerialist after attending the classes here!

Pro Tips:

Book a party at The Circus Fix for a memorable time! If you can afford to dedicate a huge chunk of your time, you might be interested in joining the studio’s yoga retreats.

Cirque-ability

From: cirqueability

Address: 807 St Clarens Ave

Operating Hours: Open 24 hours

Website

Cirque-ability is another studio that focuses more on circus training, but the programs also include aerial lessons, so they’re worth checking out. The best part is that the studio is open to both children and adults!

I really like how the classes are structured here. First, you’ll be doing warm-ups and then exercises that improve your strength. After all that, you’ll be working on new skills and more practices that enhance your endurance.

Pro Tips:

Bond with your family by booking the family aerial session! Not feeling comfortable in a crowd? You might want to book a private session instead.
