The Best Bakeries in Toronto That I Loaf So Much!

bakeries-in-toronto

Anyone who knows me in real life knows I have the worst sweet tooth. I prefer starting my day with a sweet pastry for breakfast, and even for my snacks throughout the day, I go for pies, tarts, and cookies.

As such, I’ve tried many bakeries in Toronto, and some of them I’ve loved so much that I’m now a returning patron, and the staff already knows my name!

If you’re also a bread and pastry lover, then you should check out my current favorites!

Patisserie 27

– From: melaniecarmo

Address: 401 Jane St

Operating Hours: Wednesday to Sunday—8 am to 2 pm

Contact Number: +14167622103

Website

Patisserie 27 is a humble bakery on Jane Street, but after a couple of visits, it has made its way to my heart.

I love that the pastries sold here look simple and sophisticated at the same time. They also taste delicious—sweet but not too sweet.

One of my go-to orders is the fruit tart. The crust is crispy like a cookie, and the almond cream is thick and luscious. It’s also topped with mixed berries that add a sharp tanginess to the snack.

Pro Tip:

This bakery gets super busy on the weekends. If you want to avoid getting stuck in a line, you should place your order by phone during the week.

Wanda’s Pie in the Sky

From: wandaspieinthesky

  • Sunday to Wednesday—10 am to 6 pm
  • Thursday—9:30 am to 6 pm
  • Friday and Saturday—9:30 am to 7 pm

Contact Number: +14162367585

Website

Located in Toronto’s Kensington Market, Wanda’s Pie in the Sky is my go-to bakery when I’m craving pies, in particular. The pies here just hit different for me!

There’s a good variety of flavors here, but so far, my favorite is the Niagara peach pie. It’s sweet, juicy perfection; the only downside is that it’s only available during the summer.

The pies aren’t the only things I love here. I also recommend trying the dulce de leche cookies. They’re crispy and chewy at the same time, and the filling is a decadent dulce de leche dream with coconut and pecans.

Pro Tip:

Not all the flavors are available every day. If there’s a particular flavor you want, I recommend pre-ordering to ensure you’ll get it.

Daan Go Cake Lab

Have you ever tried mooncakes? If your answer is no, you definitely should! Daan Go Cake Lab offers some of the best mooncakes in Toronto, so I recommend going there as soon as possible.

I love that the mooncakes here come in a wide variety of unique flavor combinations. There are classic sweet flavors like passionfruit cheesecake and pistachio raspberry, but there are also savory options like the salted duck egg!

Additionally, this bakery sells beautiful desserts that are perfect for social media. The macarons, in particular, are always designed to look like adorable animals.

Pro Tips:

If you have a little child who loves baking and decorating, this bakery offers pastry workshops from time to time.Order a custom cake for your special event here.

Forno Cultura

– From: fornocultura

  • Monday, Wednesday to Friday—7:30 am to 7 pm
  • Tuesday—7:30 am to 6 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday—8 am to 7 pm

Contact Number: +14166038305

Website

Forno Cultura is more on the higher end in terms of prices, but it’s definitely worth it, especially if you love bread more than pastries.

The focaccia here is always a winner. It’s so soft and pillowy, while the exterior has a nice crispiness and char. I always pair it with cheese (gouda or Crottin Germain) and meat, and I feel like ascending every time.

I know I’m a dessert lover, but I make an exception for this bakery.

Pro Tip:

There’s limited seating inside, but everything gets filled up during rush hour (around 10 am to 12 pm). Avoid coming around that time if possible.

Blackbird Baking Co.

From: bbirdco

Address: 172 Baldwin St, Kensington Sound

Operating Hours

  • Monday to Saturday—9 am to 6 pm
  • Sunday—10 am to 5 pm

Contact Number: +14165462280

Website

Blackbird Baking Co. is another great bakery for people who love all things bread. I love getting the baguette here to make sandwiches at home. The brioche is also great, especially when I’m making burgers.

There are also many pastry options here. I’m a big fan of the chocolate croissant; it’s so buttery and flaky, and the sweetness is subtle. I also recommend the cinnamon bun because it’s a sugary and nutty treat.

Pro Tip:

Some of the products like the caneles, miche bread, and brioche are only available on certain days, so I recommend checking out the menu first before coming to the bakery.

Serano Bakery

From: seranobakery

Address: 830 Pape Ave, East York

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—8 am to 9 pm

Contact Number: +14164622735

Website

Serano Bakery is a family-run business that specializes in Greek pastries, bread, and cakes.

My go-to order is any of the tsoureki or Greek sweet breads. Usually eaten during Easter, tsoureki is light and delicate, and it tastes great with coffee.

Another one that I like to get here is the baklava. This classic dessert may look simple at first—just filo pastry and nuts—but it’s so indulgent. I can devour several slices in one sitting, which is why I always get the assorted tray.

Pro Tip:

This bakery has a mini-grocery section that sells baking goods like dairy, cheeses, and preserves.

Bobbette and Belle Artisanal Pastries

From: bobbetteandbelle

Address: 1121 Queen St E

Operating Hours

  • Tuesday—11 am to 5 pm
  • Wednesday to Sunday—9 am to 6 pm

Contact Number: +14164668800

Website

Honestly, what drew me into Bobbette and Belle Artisanal Pastries is the fact that the pastries look so pretty on social media. Fortunately, when I went to the bakery and tasted one, I found it delicious as well.

I’m fond of the lemon meringue pie; the curd is silky smooth and has the right balance of sweet and sour, while the meringue is perfectly toasted. If I’m craving cake, my go-to choice is the Ultimate Chocolate Cake. It really is chocolate overload, and I love it!

Pro Tip:

This bakery has its own cookbook! You can buy it here.

Bakerbots Baking truly is a paradise for dessert lovers. Not only does this bakery sell colorful and tasty pastries, but it also offers ice creams with unique flavors!

Personally, I love getting cookies and ice cream to make my own ice cream sandwich. I change the flavors every time, but so far, the favorite one I came up with is the Everything Cookie with Burnt Marshmallow ice cream. It tastes like s’mores—yum!

This bakery accepts custom orders for special events. You just have to call them to make the request. Cash payment isn’t accepted here. You have to pay via credit card.

Butter Baker Market Cafe is a snug shop that feels like you’ve stepped into a portal and landed in a French bakery. The shelves are lined with a wide variety of French-style baked goods—both sweet and savory.

The waffles are my favorite thing to order here. My go-to flavor is the strawberry waffles, which has French vanilla whipped cream, strawberry compote, and fresh strawberries. It’s sweet, tangy, and refreshing—a perfect way to start the day, if you ask me!

Tre Mari Bakery has been serving Italian-style bread and pastries for over 60 years, and to this day, it’s still attracting a good number of customers.

You can’t go wrong with the tiramisu cake. It’s creamy and fluffy, and the sweet ladyfinger cookies add a nice crunchy texture.

If you prefer savory over sweet, be sure to try the focaccia Pugliese. I especially like the cherry tomato and oregano focaccia because it combines sweet, tangy, and peppery flavors well.

Pro Tips:

You can book this bakery’s catering services for your special event.

Do you want to recreate some of the dishes served here? There are some recipes available on the website!

  • Saturday and Sunday—11 am to 4 pm

Contact Number: +14163688188

Website

Roselle Desserts features French-inspired pastries with modern and playful local influences.

There are only a couple of pastries available, but they’re all so good, so you can’t go wrong with any of them. Personally, I like getting the madeleines because they’re so tiny I can devour them in no time.

The banana cream pie eclair is also great. It’s made with rum caramelized bananas, vanilla bean custard, and whipped white chocolate ganache, so it’s undoubtedly a sweet explosion.

Pro Tip:

This bakery sells cookie mixes and madeleine kits. These are perfect for people who love to bake but feel lazy to do so sometimes.

Le Beau Croissanterie

From: lebeaulab

Address: 665 Dundas St E

Operating Hours: Wednesday to Sunday—9 am to 5 pm

Website

As you can guess from the name, Le Beau Croissanterie specializes in croissants and laminated dough. In my opinion, the croissants here are some of the best I’ve ever tasted in my life!

There are different flavors available for the croissants. I love the chocolate one because I’m a chocolate enthusiast, but the raspberry one also tastes great. I love how the sharp tartness from the raspberry complements the sweet, buttery croissant.

Pro Tip:

The croissants here sell out fast, so if you want to snag one (or two), I recommend coming here as soon as the bakery opens. It’s the only way since they don’t accept pre-orders.

Delysées Luxury Desserts is another bakery that specializes in French patisserie. The prices here are on the higher end, so I only come here often.

I usually get a box of colorful macarons. They’re so fun to eat—crispy and delicate at the same time, and of course very sweet. Some of them have extra elements like sprinkles and nuts, which add a nice texture.

Sometimes when I have money to spare, I treat myself to their gorgeous, almost reflective cakes. My favorite flavor is the Nutella tiramisu one; I love the coffee-chocolate combination.

I only happened to come across The Rolling Pin on an accident (I was hungry, and it was the only one that was selling food near me), and yet now, it’s become one of my favorite bakeries ever. It’s such a charming shop with delicious treats!

I love the donuts here, and out of all the flavors, my go-to order is the blueberry cheesecake. It’s dense, sugary, and tart; I can’t get enough of it!

If you’re vegan or sensitive to gluten, then Bunner’s Bakeshop is for you. This bakery specializes in vegan and gluten-free baked goods that taste just as good as the original!

Their muffins are especially scrumptious. The double chocolate chunk is a great flavor; so decadent and dense. I also like the blueberry oat crumble muffin because it’s sweet and tart and has a nice crumbly texture.

Pro Tip:

Order an elaborate cake from this bakery for your wedding.
