Living with hard water was getting frustrating. Soap never lathered properly, my glasses kept coming out cloudy, and then a plumber friend told me it could even damage pipes over time.
That was enough for me. I installed a good water softener, and things have been smooth ever since.
Since most of Toronto’s homes and businesses deal with hard water, I’ve put together a list of the best water softeners in the city to help others avoid the same problems.
How much does a water softener cost in Toronto?
A water softener in Toronto usually costs about $2,750, with installation fees on top. The final price can change depending on the type of system you choose and how complex the installation is.

Kent Water Purification Systems provides whole-home water softener solutions designed to address hard water issues commonly found across Southern Ontario. Their approach focuses on protecting plumbing, improving water quality, and helping homeowners maintain efficient household water systems.
The company customizes each water softener based on factors such as water source, household demand, and measured hardness levels rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution. This personalized sizing aims to deliver consistent water pressure, efficient regeneration, and long-term system performance.
Kent explains that its water softeners use an ion exchange process to remove calcium and magnesium, the minerals responsible for hard water. By reducing these minerals, the systems help minimize limescale buildup while supplying softened water throughout the home.
Their water softener systems are designed to improve appliance efficiency and reduce mineral accumulation inside water heaters, dishwashers, washing machines, and plumbing. The softened water may also help improve skin and hair comfort while keeping laundry softer and brighter.
Kent offers solutions for both municipal and private well water, with configurations tailored to different water conditions. Well water systems can also be paired with additional treatment options when higher hardness levels or other mineral concerns are present.
The company complements its products with services such as free water testing, professional system sizing, installation within three days, flexible payment options, a 30-day satisfaction period, and a manufacturer-backed warranty. These offerings make it easier for homeowners to determine the most suitable water softener system for their property’s specific needs.

2. Kinetico Quality Water GTA

Water softeners offered: Premier Series, Signature Series, Essential Series, and Powerline Series
Address: 21 Parr Blvd #10, Bolton
Phone number: +1 866-245-1375
Business hours: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (MON-FRI)
I found out that Kinetico Quality Water GTA has been in Toronto for over 26 years. That kind of history gave me confidence that they understand the local water issues.
Most of their softeners use a twin-tank setup, so you almost never run out of soft water. The tanks also regenerate only when needed, which helps minimize salt use.
What really stood out to me is that their systems run without electricity. They rely on the flow of water itself, which means fewer breakdowns and no interruptions during outages.
They also have an app that tracks usage and makes it simple to schedule service calls. Furthermore, Costco members get special pricing, which is a decent perk if you have the card.
The one drawback is communication. They often take a full day to respond to enquiries and sometimes don’t reply at all.
Best water softener system out there
“Best water softener system out there. We spoke to a few other vendors in this space. Most sell you on the soap savings and conduct questionable dye-based testing. Sumeer from Kinetico was professional, stayed true to the science and used equipment that provided details on our water quality down to two decimal places. Sumeer also followed up with an I home post install assessment. What a treat, thanks team.”

We have recently had the Kinetico system installed and what a difference!
“We have recently had the Kinetico system installed and what a difference! The taste in the water is noticeable, no residue around the bathroom, sink etc from hard water (and its about 3 weeks now). My reason for the five stars is a combination of Kinetico smooth installation services, and the customer service we received from the representative, Adam Heine, who was so easy to deal with, prompt with his responses to any questions we had and nothing was a bother for him.”

3. Silverstream Water Systems

Water softeners offered: SF4 Water Softener Dechlorinator and SF4DUO Water Softener Purifier
Address: 225 The East Mall
Phone number: +1 647-625-5885
Business hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (MON-SAT)
I got my water softener from Silverstream Water Systems, and it’s been a great choice. Their free water consultation really helped — they took the time to explain all my options and recommend the best setup for my home. They explained that Toronto’s water is treated with chloramine — a combination of chlorine and ammonia — and that a standard carbon filter won’t effectively remove it.
I chose the SF4-DUO two-tank system with a backwashing dechloraminator, which not only softens the water but also removes chloramine, chlorine, by-products, and other organic compounds throughout the whole house. The results were noticeable right away — showers feel nicer, laundry is softer, the cloudy film on our glasses is gone, and there’s no chlorine taste or smell in the water.
I also appreciate that the system is powered by a low-energy 12V adapter, making it inexpensive to operate. Their service plans extend the manufacturer’s warranty, and financing is available, which is a plus.
These systems aren’t cheap and require professional installation — but for us, it was absolutely worth it.
I’m very satisfied with their product and services

4. Water Doctor

Water softeners offered: Symphony Softener and Symphony Lite Softener
Address: 601 Denison St, Markham
Phone number: +1 289-748-9666
Business hours: 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM (MON-FRI)
Water Doctor has been around since 1985, so it’s safe to say they know Toronto’s hard water situation inside out. I looked into them to see how they stack up, and they do cover a lot.
Their flagship softener, the Symphony, is built with fibreglass for durability and comes with a smart control display to make it easy to use. There’s also a Lite version for condo units. All of their softeners include a 5-year warranty.
I like that they offer free installation, so you don’t have to pay extra if you’re not DIY-savvy. They also let you trade in an old system for a discount.
Bundles are available, too, so you can pick up their other products without paying full price separately.
Unfortunately, even though you save money at the start, the upkeep can get expensive since customers mention high maintenance fees later on.
Great product, great service!
“Great product, great service! Water is very hard in my area, we’re very happy with it so far. No more mineral deposits on faucets!”
-Fiona Jia, Google Reviews

5. Culligan

Water softeners offered: Aquasential Smart High Efficiency, Aquasential Select, HE Softener-Cleer Home Water Conditioner, Aquasential Smart Twin Water, and more
Address: 30 Delta Park Blvd, Brampton
Phone number: +1 905-890-2802
Business hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (MON-FRI)
I’m sure Culligan is a name many people know, especially since they have a global presence and decades of experience. Here in Toronto, they offer a wide range of water softeners to suit different needs.
The most unique option is their salt-free conditioner, which uses anti-scaling resin to change the structure of minerals and reduce buildup. It doesn’t remove hardness completely, but it helps with the side effects that come with it.
They also carry standard softeners with smart controls that adjust to your water use so you’re not wasting salt or water. Furthermore, they offer regular salt delivery, which saves you the hassle of buying and carrying it yourself.
Their products come with a 20-year warranty and a satisfaction guarantee that allows a full refund within 30 days.
The downsides are their higher prices and the fact that their water softeners only work with Culligan parts.
The quality of the water is amazing
“Eric was very good and understood our needs. He did not try to upsell anything and that was really appreciated. He explained the facts as they were. Super impressive. The quality of the water is amazing too. Eric promised to come and test everything once the installation was over. Overall, a really good experience.”
-Leroi S. Lobo, Google Reviews
This new system works very well
“I bought Aquasential Smart High Efficiency Water Softener 1 month ago in Cullingan Brampton to replace the old system used more than 15 years ago. This new system works very well. It automatically adjusts to make water better. The control valve is easy to use. It connects to the internet and uses the APP very well. I suggested this system to everyone.”

6. Enercare

Water softeners offered: Standard water softener and water softener with dechlorinator
Address: 37 Dufflaw Rd, North York
Phone number: +1 416-640-1206
Business hours: Available 24/7
Enercare has been around for more than 70 years, and in Toronto, they’re one of the bigger names for heating, plumbing, and water treatment. They provide two types of water softeners, a standard unit and another that includes a dechlorinator.
What piqued my interest is their rental program through Enercare Advantage. You don’t need to buy the system outright, and the plan covers installation, maintenance, and repairs.
I also noticed their bundle promotions, such as pairing a softener with a tankless water heater, which comes with a prepaid card worth $2,050 that can be used in many stores around the city.
On the flip side, it seems they push rentals more than purchases, and long-term support for owned softeners isn’t as strong. I also calculated that renting their basic softener costs $3,456 over 10 years, while buying it only costs $2,414.
I’m very happy with the service
“Today, Alexander C installed a water filtration, softener and RO system in our house. He was very professional and knowledgeable. The work was quick and left no mess. At the end, he walked me through the setup and answered any questions I had. I’m very happy with the service.”

The system is working perfectly now. It’s rare to find such reliable and knowledgeable service these days”
