Where to Find the Best Cakes in Toronto: 18 Bakeries That Satisfied My Sweet Tooth

cakes-in-toronto

Everyone in my life knows that I have the worst sweet tooth. I will gladly devour all kinds of desserts—pies, cupcakes, ice cream—you name it! But if you were to ask me what my favorite sweet treat is, I have to say the classic answer: cake.

If you’re a cake enthusiast like me, check out these bakeries. These are where I’ve tasted the best cakes in Toronto so far.

Patisserie 27

– From: lemonasians.to

Address: 401 Jane St

Operating Hours: Wednesday to Sunday—8 am to 2 pm

Website

Patisserie 27 seems like an unassuming bakery, but its treats are always a winner for me, which is why I find myself coming here often!

My favorite thing to get is the hazelnut sponge cake, which is covered with coffee-flavored ganache. The cake base is so light and fluffy, almost like a pillow, while the ganache isn’t overly sweet. I don’t even like the taste of coffee often, but somehow, with this cake, I don’t mind!

Pro Tip:

This bakery tends to attract long lines during the weekend. To avoid getting stuck in line, I recommend booking your order on weekdays.

Bobbette and Belle Artisanal Pastries

From: bobbetteandbelle

Address: 1121 Queen St E

Operating Hours:

  • Tuesday—11 am to 5 pm
  • Wednesday to Sunday—9 am to 6 pm

Contact Number: +14164668800

Website

What I love about Bobbette and Belle Artisanal Pastries is that their products always look so pretty. The designs always look deceptively simple, but they excite my senses all the same. Plus, I’m always a big sucker for florals as well!

As a chocolate lover, of course, my favorite cake is the Ultimate Chocolate Cake. The three layers are super moist and rich, and the chocolate buttercream is indulgent. Then there’s the chocolate ganache and chunks of chewy brownies. It’s chocolate overload, I know!

Pro Tip:

This bakery has its own cookbook. Buy it here and bake your own cakes.

Padaria Toronto Junction

From: padaria_to

If you’ve never tried Brazilian pastries before, now’s your chance to rectify it! The best Brazilian bakery for you to check out is Padaria Toronto.

I recommend getting the Charlotte cake with brigadeiros (chocolate balls with sprinkles). This cake is so decadent! The base is rich and dense, while the brigadeiros add a lovely crunchy texture.

The brigadeiros are also oozing with a sugary filling. My go-to choice is traditional chocolate, but coconut also tastes great.

Pro Tip:

You can order cakes from this bakery for a special event.

Phipps Bakery and Dessert Shop has been around for about 40 years now, and in that time, it has garnered a cult following in the neighborhood. When I checked out, I instantly saw why the locals love it so much.

Everything about this bakery is just so cozy and comforting, including the cakes. My favorite cake is the cappuccino chiffon, which is light and delicate. It’s also topped with chocolate espresso mousse and wrapped in chocolate, so every slice is a delight.

What’s great about Daan Go Cake Lab is that the cakes always look like works of art that should be displayed in a gallery. Sometimes, I even hesitate to take a bite from the cake because it’s just so pretty!

The Celebration Pig cake has always been one of my favorites because it looks so cute. Inside is a chiffon cake with raspberry chocolate mousse, raspberry sakura chantilly, and cherry rose confit, so the flavor profile is delicate sweetness and sharp tartness.

Another bakery that has cakes so gorgeous you hesitate to eat them is Velvet Lane Cakes. The first time I came here, I genuinely thought the cakes on display were sculptures!

I’m obsessed with the Floral Cascade cake. The light pink buttercream and the eye-catching flowers on top of the cake make for a delightful sight.

As for the flavor, you can customize it. I usually go with the lemon and raspberry combo because I feel like the sweet-tart flavor profile works well with the cake’s aesthetics.

The chocolate cake is my favorite thing to order here. The base is a light and bouncy sponge cake, then it’s topped with a Valrhona dark chocolate mousse. The whole cake is drenched with dark chocolate ganache, and for decorations, it has crispy pearls. I love that this cake isn’t too sweet!

The bakery’s shop offers all sorts of merchandise, from tote bags to clothing. It also has baking kits if you want to try baking but don’t know where to start.

What I love about Kwento is its whimsical energy. The designs are always so cute and vibrant, and I appreciate that the treats have Filipino flavors infused in them. How can I say no to ube macapuno or mango cakes?

Aside from ube macapuno, I also love their cakes with citrus olive oil, whipped mascarpone, and calamansi curd. The flavor profile is a mix of buttery, citrusy, and tangy—a combination that doesn’t sound appealing at first but actually tastes so well!

I like the Taro Lover cake because it has an interesting extra texture thanks to the layer of taro sticky rice inside it.

Another flavor I recommend is the Vietnamese Coffee Tiramisu. The coffee is strong, but it’s complemented well with the creamy mascarpone.

I really love the blueberry and yogurt cake because it combines sweet, tart, and tangy perfectly. I also love the combination of the pillowy chiffon base, the soft chantilly cream, the sticky blueberry jam, and the real chunks of blueberries and black currants. So addictive!

My favorite cake to get here is Gâteau Marbré because it looks like real marble! Inside, you can find a vanilla cake base with soft caramel and 70% dark chocolate ganache, so it tastes bittersweet.

Another cake I recommend is the red velvet cake, which is light, creamy, and tangy. It also looks very pretty. The red frosting is so vibrant!

I usually come to Cake It Toronto to enjoy a nice cup of coffee and pastry before going back to real life. But lately, I’ve been coming here to order custom cakes because they always turn out so well!

I usually get a Nutella mousse cake because I love the chocolate hazelnut flavor. The Lotus Biscoff and white chocolate mousse is also a great choice, especially if you love the flavor of cookie butter. This one tastes super rich though, so keep that in mind.

The cakes at Short and Sweet Bakeshop look like the kind you’ll see in a cartoon movie. The colors are so bright they’re practically popping off, and the additional decorations are always so adorable.

The Secret Garden cake has to be my favorite one because I love its floral design. When it comes to flavor, I usually go with my typical choice (chocolate), but I’ve also come to appreciate the lemon drop flavor. The sour notes work well with the sweet.

Pro Tip:

This bakery accepts cake requests for weddings. If you’re interested, keep in mind that booking slots are limited every year.

In particular, my favorite thing to get here is the smash cake, which is perfect if you’re sad and you need to cheer up. I get the heart-shaped cake, and then I smash the shell (made from Belgian chocolate) to smithereens. It’s so satisfying!

I usually get any of the bottle cakes because they’re perfect for one person. Black Forest is the flavor I tend to get because I love the combination of a rich chocolate cake layer and cherry filling.

The hazelnut chocolate is also great because it’s basically Nutella. It’s also topped with a single Ferrero Rocher for extra crunch.

The Flower Cake Cafe is such an underrated spot. I remember always passing by it numerous times before I finally gave it a chance, and now I’m a repeat customer.

The bakery mostly has cookies and cupcakes available on display, so if you want to try their cakes, you need to pre-order ahead of time. The flavor options are the classic ones (chocolate, vanilla, red velvet, and Earl Grey), but they taste great all the same.

I recommend mixing and matching the flavors. Last time, I ordered a chocolate and Earl Grey combination, and it turned out so good!

Pro Tip:

To book your cake, you need to call the bakery.

This bakery only has a few options in its cake menu, but they’re all great, so I’m not complaining. My favorite so far is the strawberry shortcake because I love how it’s so fluffy and delicate. It’s like eating a cloud (with real chunks of strawberries)!

The chocolate ganache cake is a must-try as well. It’s a classic choice, but the bakery has made it even more decadent somehow.
