I’m always down to try new and exciting things, but nothing has made the end of my 2024 quite as thrilling as participating in The Bentway’s annual Polar Bear Skate.
Held on December 29, 2024, this daring event challenges participants to brave not only the biting cold but also the curious stares of bystanders as they skate beneath the Gardiner Expressway wearing nothing but their underwear.
Beyond the fun, the Polar Bear Skate serves a greater purpose—raising donations of winter clothing for New Circles Community Services. This organization works tirelessly to support those in need throughout the harsh winter months.

Participating in the event was exhilarating. It felt wacky yet profoundly fulfilling to know that I was helping my fellow Torontonians.
The free Bentway toque and hot chocolate drink I received afterwards were the perfect cozy rewards for my chilly adventure.
If you missed out on 2024’s Polar Bear Skate, don’t worry. The Bentway will surely host another one in December 2025.
In the meantime, there are still plenty of winter activities to enjoy. Free skate rentals are available every Thursday from January 9, 2025, until February 13, 2025.
Of course, you can also skate here on days other than Thursday. Rental equipment costs $12 for adult skates and $10 for children’s skates.
