The Best Psychologists in Toronto to Turn to for Nonjudgmental Clinical Assessments

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

In today’s fast-paced world, mental health is crucial. However, this is a subject that’s not tackled by one profession alone.

Most of us are already aware of psychotherapists (psychotherapist toronto), who are responsible for providing emotional support. However, anything that involves the assessment and diagnosis of mental health is performed by a psychologist.

You can get an accurate look into your current mental state by visiting these reliable psychologists!

How much does it cost to see a psychologist in Toronto?

Most psychologists in Toronto charge $1,750 for a full psychological assessment. However, your price can vary widely depending on the type and complexity of the assessment.

How We Chose

Qualifications and experience – We picked licensed psychologists with more than three years of experience.
Specialisation – We also chose psychologists with varying specialisations and areas of expertise, such as learning disabilities, ADHD, and mood disorders.
Professionalism – We looked at whether they always treat their patients with respect and are always on time for their appointments. We also checked whether they respond quickly to calls and emails.
Accessibility – We considered whether their clinics are near major roads and public transit stations. We also assessed whether they’re available on most days of the week.
Price fairness – We also evaluated whether their prices are fair based on their specialisations, accessibility, qualifications, and track record.

The Toronto Psych-Ed & ADHD Clinic, founded by Dr. Saeid Chavoshi, is a reliable mental health clinic with two locations in Toronto. While they do offer a wide range of services, their specialty is providing ADHD and autism assessments for adults.

Thankfully, it isn’t so hard to avail of their in-depth services since they can provide remote assessments to residents of Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia. These assessments use a combination of interviews and computerised tests to provide accurate results.

Another good thing this clinic offers is its comprehensive psychoeducational assessments designed to evaluate a student’s intellectual and academic skills. They even have a special gifted assessment service that can determine whether a kid shows extraordinary promise.

Just remember that these tests they offer are slightly above average when it comes to prices.

Pros

  • Remote ADHD assessments
  • Two locations in Toronto
  • Can do gifted assessments
  • Offers free phone consultations

Cons

  • Slightly above-average prices
  • Inconsistent operating hours

I am very pleased with my experience in the clinic from start to finish

“I am very pleased with my experience in the clinic from start to finish therefore I highly recommend. All steps of the assessment are clearly communicated and carried throughout in a friendly, informative and thorough manner. Dr. Saeid Chavoshi takes time to listen and respond to any concerns that may arise in a very compassionate and knowledgeable way. If you are going the assessment route, this clinic is absolutely your go to! Good luck :)”

A great place to get an assessment for Adult ADHD

“Honestly it’s a great place to get an assessment for Adult ADHD. There is no huge waiting time to get your first appointment like other clinics and the whole process from your initial consultation to your report will only take 1-2 months which is incredible. I was able to get my life back on track within just a month. I do not regret choosing this clinic and the team here to get my assessment done by. They helped me get the proper accommodations I need at university.”

McDowall Integrative Psychology & Healthcare is a mental health clinic founded by Dr. Sharleen McDowall in 2004. With six locations across Ontario, they offer diagnostic assessments for ADHD, PTSD, depression, and more.

Aside from the usual assessments, they also provide special ones designed to check the mental state of motor vehicle accident victims. They can even provide an immigration assessment for those who are pursuing a refugee claim.

Overall, the list of psychological assessments they offer is certainly nothing to scoff at. It’s made even better once I realised that they have psychological therapies and treatments too.

However, their tendency to suddenly cancel appointments is a bit of a letdown for me.

Pros

  • 20 years of experience
  • Six locations in Ontario
  • Special assessments for refugees and MVA victims
  • Offers free initial assessments

Cons

  • Sometimes cancels appointments abruptly
  • Sometimes forgets to respond to enquiries

They did an incredible job

“I needed psychological help for my youngest son. They did an incredible job and were definitely helpful. He is now well, happiness came back to his life. I’m so grateful.”

Dr. McDowell’s empathetic approach made a significant difference

“I had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Sharleen McDowell for about 1.5 years to deal with issues related to a car accident. I was experiencing a lot of anxiety, pain and sleep issues. Dr.McDowell’s empathetic approach made a significant difference. She was patient and always listened to my concerns, which helped tremendously with my anxiety. The office environment is beautiful, and the staff are very professional and always available when needed. I highly recommend Dr. McDowell.”

Toronto Psychology & Wellness Group (TPWG) is a top-notch clinic founded by seasoned clinical psychologists Dr. Nina Mafrici and Dr. Michele Foster in 2017. They currently offer psychoeducational assessments as well as diagnostic assessments for mental health issues like ADHD.

Their psychological assessments meet industry standards, but they stand out with specialised programs for eating disorders and emotional dysregulation.

One example is their eating disorder programming, which is an evidence-based treatment developed by their team of psychologists, social workers, and dietitians designed to help patients who are suffering from orthorexia and bulimia nervosa.

It’s also worth noting that their facility is fully equipped to handle patients in need of close medical monitoring and assist them towards recovery.

However, one thing I dislike about them is their somewhat slow response time to enquiries. You may need to wait up to 48 hours before they send you a reply.

Pros

  • 7 years of experience
  • Specialised programs for eating disorders
  • Can assist in resolving emotional dysregulation
  • Can provide close medical monitoring
  • Offers free initial assessments

Cons

  • May take 48 hours to respond
  • Above-average prices

A fantastic clinic that treats people with compassion and total professionalism

“This is a fantastic clinic that treats people with compassion and total professionalism. Dr Foster conducted a workshop for our company that was met with rave reviews. Started in 2007, the Toronto Psychological Services & Research Centre has become a renowned provider of psychological care in Toronto. They offer a wide range of services, from individual and family therapy to educational and psychological assessments.

For me, the best thing about them is their comprehensive assessment package, which lets clients access most of their psychoeducational and clinical assessments for the price of one.

As for their therapies and treatments, one thing I’d like to shine a spotlight on is their child-centred therapy. It uses play therapy as a primary method to help children express their feelings and work through emotional challenges.

The only thing that I probably dislike about this clinic is its expensive fees. Luckily, they offer flexible payment plans and special deals to make their prices slightly less painful on your wallet.

Pros

  • 17 years of experience
  • Has a comprehensive assessment package
  • Can provide child-centred therapy
  • Offers flexible payment plans
  • Has special deals and discounts

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Unavailable on weekends

They took their time in the assessment and even went the extra mile to ensure it was completed with the utmost quality and accuracy. We can’t thank them enough!!”

If you require some assistance in diagnosing the effects of neurodegenerative diseases, come visit the Toronto Psychology Centre. Not only do they offer thorough assessments for ADHD, autism, and learning disabilities, but they can also provide neuropsychological assessments.

This specific type of assessment is focused entirely on your current brain function and how it affects your behaviour and cognitive processes. It’s recommended for those who suffer from severe diseases like Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, and brain cancer.

Aside from these insightful assessments, their psychologists can also provide plenty of evidence-based psychological therapies to assist their patients. One of those is dialectical behaviour therapy, which is designed to improve a person’s emotional regulation and distress tolerance.

Sadly, it has come to my attention that their psychologists tend to be fully booked quickly. It might be better to look elsewhere, especially if you’re seeking a service most psychologists can offer easily.

Pros

  • Offers neuropsychological assessments
  • Offers dialectical behaviour therapy
  • Provides virtual therapy sessions
  • Provides virtual therapy sessions

Cons

  • Hefty penalty fee for cancellations
  • Tends to get fully booked quickly

Very caring, patient and helped me through this painful time

“I saw Dr. Prosser after the unexpected and tragic loss of my mother. She was very caring, patient and helped me through this painful time. This is my first time in therapy and I want others to know it is possible to feel differently. Although I continue to miss my mother deeply, I feel more at peace with myself.”
