We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

I’ve always felt that giving my kid a solid education is one of the best things I can do for her future. Not just for grades, but for the kind of opportunities that come with knowing how to learn and think for yourself.

One thing that’s really helped is getting her a personal tutor. It’s made a huge difference in how she understands things and actually remembers them, which has taken a lot of stress off both of us.

I know there are many parents who are thinking about doing something similar, so I put together a list of the best tutoring centres around Toronto.

How much does tutoring cost in Toronto?

Tutoring usually costs around $58 per hour in Toronto. However, your price can vary depending on the subject, the tutor’s experience, and whether it’s in-person or online.

How We Chose

Tutor expertise – We picked tutoring centres that hire qualified educators with strong subject knowledge and who have at least three years of experience teaching the Ontario curriculum.
Learning customization – We assessed whether these centres tailor their sessions to each student’s needs, offering personalized plans and adapting their teaching style to suit different learning preferences.
Session flexibility – We considered how easy it is to book sessions, including options for evenings, weekends, and online learning. We also prefer centres that offer in-person and virtual formats for their clients.
Customer service – We evaluated how responsive and helpful the staff are, especially when it comes to answering questions, adjusting schedules, or supporting students who need extra encouragement.
Price fairness – We also considered whether their prices felt fair given the experience and qualifications of their tutors, the quality of their learning spaces, and the extra services offered.

TutorBright has been around since 2009, and I’ve heard good things about it from parents in my circle. They focus on personalized learning and offer both in-home and online sessions.

Subjects include math, English, science, and French. What I appreciate is their free consultation. They use it to build a custom learning plan and match your kid with a tutor who fits their style. That kind of attention makes a difference.

They’re especially strong in special education. If your child has ADHD or dyslexia, they’ve got tutors with real experience in that space. They also offer a satisfaction guarantee, so if the first session doesn’t feel right, you get a full refund.

Just a heads-up, they don’t offer group sessions. They’re also unavailable on weekends and Mondays, making scheduling a lesson a bit of a hassle sometimes.

Pros

  • More than 15 years of experience
  • Offers in-home and online sessions
  • Free consultation and custom learning plan
  • Customer satisfaction guarantee
  • Offers special education support

Cons

  • No group sessions available
  • Unavailable on weekends and Mondays

This has been a very positive and easy-to-manage experience

“I want to give 5 stars to TutorBright for the great experience we’ve had with their online tutoring program. As a mom, I’ve really appreciated how smoothly everything has gone—from the high level of teaching and flexibility in scheduling with the tutors, to the clear and timely invoicing, and excellent communication between the admin team and the tutors.

My son truly enjoyed his classes with his French teacher, Zafer, and his Math teacher, Matthew. They both demonstrated strong knowledge and a great ability to teach.

Overall, this has been a very positive and easy-to-manage experience.”

The personal tutor currently helping my daughter with her studies is from Tutor Doctor. They’ve been around since 2011 and have a diverse team of tutors, which made me more comfortable with my decision.

Their lesson offerings are quite broad. Right now, the tutor is doing a solid job with science and math, but I’m considering adding language lessons like Spanish and French to help my daughter build more confidence in speaking.

One thing I appreciated was their 60-day money-back guarantee. It gave us some breathing room to try things out without feeling locked in. They also have a tutor match guarantee, which means if the first tutor doesn’t click, they’ll find someone else.

However, their prices are a bit higher than I expected. And since there’s no proper booking system, you have to leave your contact info and wait for a follow-up.

Pros

  • Almost 15 years of experience
  • Specialized language lessons like Spanish, Japanese, and Italian
  • 60-day money-back guarantee
  • Has a tutor match guarantee
  • Offers in-home and online sessions

Cons

  • Above-average prices
  • No proper online booking system

Tutorax is another name that I think deserves to be on this list. Since launching in 2017, they’ve supported over 20,000 students across Canada through both in-home and online sessions, which is a solid track record.

I like that they cover a lot of subjects, from elementary to university level, and even offer remedial support for students who’ve fallen behind or need help building confidence.

Another plus is their no-contract setup. You’re not locked into anything long-term, and you can pay per session. But if you’re interested, they also offer prepaid packages that let you pay for a couple of sessions in advance at a discounted price.

Now, it’s not all perfect. Because so many people are signing up, it can take a while before they find a tutor for you. In some cases, sessions get cancelled at the last minute because they couldn’t assign someone in time.

Pros

  • Almost 10 years of experience
  • Offers remedial support
  • No long-term contracts required
  • Optional prepaid packages with discounts
  • Offers in-home and online sessions

Cons

  • Sometimes cancels sessions abruptly
  • Occasional delays in tutor assignment

Oxford Learning is one of the more accessible tutoring centres I have come across. They’ve been around since 1984 and have 16 locations across Toronto.

What piqued my interest is their Dynamic Assessment program. It’s not just a test to pinpoint areas for improvement. Instead, their tutors observe how a student thinks and learns, then use those insights to build a personalized learning plan.

For families who prefer online learning, they have something called the Virtual Table. Students connect with tutors through screen-sharing and work with specialized workbook materials that aim to recreate the feel of an in-person session.

It’s also worth mentioning that they offer flexible payment plans to make their services a bit more manageable for different budgets.

That said, their assessment program comes with a steep $295 fee. It’s a required part of the process, and for many families, that price can be a dealbreaker.

Pros

  • 40 years of experience
  • 16 locations in Toronto
  • In-depth assessment program for personalized plans
  • Has a specialized online learning program
  • Flexible payment plans available

Cons

  • $295 assessment fee
  • Open only between Tuesdays and Thursdays

It’s a very good environment for learning

“The teachers are very positive and it’s a very good environment for learning. My siblings and I love it. Oxford has significantly helped us improve in our studies. Definitely recommend.”

“The learning experience through Oxford has been organized and very positive. They have been amazing helping my child with math and English, both on-site and online with virtual table lessons. The teaching staff is excellent, and I have highly recommended it to friends as well.”

Learning Tree Tutors is a solid pick if you want flexible, one-on-one support without the usual tutoring chain vibe. They’ve been around since 2012, locally owned, and offer both online and in-home sessions (though in-home is just for central Toronto).

Subjects range from early reading to university-level math, science, French, and even Python coding taught by actual computer pros, which is a nice touch.

What I like is their no-pressure setup. Tutoring hours are valid for a year and can be shared between siblings. If the tutor isn’t a good fit, you can request a new one at no extra cost.

It’s also nice that they offer a 30-day refund for any unused hours in case you’re unsatisfied with their services.

Sadly, I’ve heard a few students mention rude behaviour from some tutors. I hope the company takes steps to address that.

Pros

  • More than 10 years of experience
  • Offers Python coding lessons
  • 1-year validity for prepaid hours
  • Hours can be shared between siblings
  • Tutor match guarantee
  • 30-day satisfaction guarantee
  • Offers in-home and online sessions

Cons

  • Some rude tutors
  • In-home tutoring limited to central Toronto

It helped my son to improve his overall grade

“Our experience has been great. We needed some help with grade 11 Chemistry. Within 3 days of connecting with Barbara, my son had his first session. The tutor was knowledgeable, friendly and flexible with sessions. She was impeccably punctual, great at communicating and effective at teaching and explaining the curriculum/concepts. We found the service to be professional, effective and successful as it helped my son to improve his overall grade.”
