You get what you pay for
“Sosna has been my “go-to” contractor since 2009 and has completed several projects including a major addition in 2017, so who else would I trust but Sosna to put our flooded Toronto basement back in order?!
We are more than pleased with their work yet again on this basement restoration. They have made it even better than it was before. The attention to detail and high standards are exactly what you can expect from Sosna. They do not “cut corners” and are always looking for ways to make things better. You can trust when they suggest improvements to the plan that you will not be disappointed.
They may not be the least expensive contractor but I firmly believe that you get what you pay for – “cheap contractors are not good and good contractors are not cheap”!
We were doubly impressed with the workers who were always on time and kept to scheduled hours. Renovations can be very disruptive to your lives but Sosna goes above and beyond to respect your property and make the process as easy as they could. The basement furniture and boxes had to be moved several times to complete the restoration. The insurance company had already caused some additional damage when moving furniture but Sosna fixed those damages too! So very grateful!”
Went through a detailed design/planning process
“We purchased our house and moved in September 2022. After a year of getting used to it, we found to 2 main areas that we wanted to improve so we could more fully enjoy our home. Our kitchen – family room area was not large enough, oriented the wrong way and not as functional as we wanted. Secondly, the ensuite bathroom for the master suite had previously been renovated and a bathtub was installed on an angle, there was an unused sealed space above the shower, both making the room feel cramped and awkward.
We contacted Sosna to request a quote for adding an extension to the back of the house to make a larger more useable family room, more functional kitchen area and to suggest how to improve the ensuite. Andrei came to our house, we showed him around and told him what we wanted to do. He then asked us, instead of want we want to do, what is our desired outcome. Once we explained, Andrei suggested instead of adding an extension to the back of the house, to remove an existing load bearing wall to incorporate a hallway into the family room space and add a beam and post for structural integrity. He also suggested moving the wall between the ensuite and the master about 11 inches so that the ensuite could be properly reconfigured.
We went through a detailed design/planning process with Olga to come up with a solution that was both very functional and looked very attractive. After agreeing on a budget and scope we started the 5 month project. As we progressed with the demolition and through the build, a few other problems were uncovered or encountered, but Sosna always found a good solution and there was only a very slight change in the scope and cost. Our onsite supervisor Dimitri and project manager Leo found very creative ways to ensure that the work for does to our satisfaction.
Towards the end of the project, we encountered a few delays that were caused by a subcontractor. Sosna did their best to correct the problems and make things right. Since the completion, we have had a couple of items that needed attention, Sosna has been very quick in addressing these issues and resolving them.
We are very satisfied with the end result and would strongly recommend Sonsa for your renovation needs.”

Right off the bat, this company impresses me with its wide variety of services. Renovating individual rooms like kitchens and basements is the most popular, but you can also renovate a whole floor or even the whole house. If you feel like your current house is too small, they offer custom home additions as well.
Once you’ve chosen what renovation you want, the pre-construction process begins. In this process, a team goes to your house to inspect the area to be renovated.
I love this process because the contractors will provide accurate estimates and tell you about any potential problems immediately. So, when the construction begins, you won’t experience any shocking surprises, especially in terms of the budget.
Another thing I love about Oriel Renovations is that the contractors are friendly and approachable. Whatever questions or issues we had, they were always more than happy to assist. I think I asked a lot of stupid questions, but they always answered patiently.
The only “bad” thing I can think of about this renovation contractor is that the warranty is only for two years. It’s not really bad, but it’s not the best either, especially when other companies offer three years of warranty or more.

Then, you and your project planner will select the materials the project might need. Don’t worry because you can customize this part however you want.
And here’s the best part: before the construction begins, you can have a 3D render of your renovation! This is such an amazing feature because it lets you see what the space might look like, allowing you to make any adjustments as needed.
After all that, the only thing left to do is wait, which won’t have to do for long because the team works fast.
Their warranty is only for two years, but your project does come with a C$5 million insurance, so it’s not too bad of a deal.

First of all, this company offers consultations, so if you have any questions about their renovation process, this is your chance to ask them. Oh, and don’t worry about having to pay for this consultation because it’s actually free!
Another thing I love about ALBO is that they cater to all spaces, big or small, and if needed, they will provide other renovation-adjacent services, such as electrical wiring, pipe installation, sewage overhaul, flooring installation, and plumping.
The only downside? Their rates can be quite expensive, especially compared to others on this list. But if you like how their past projects look, I think this is a worthwhile investment.

Ashton Renovations is a family-owned and operated business that’s been operating since 1995. It’s highly recommended among my close circle of friends and family, and I can see why that’s the case.
This company specializes in bathroom and kitchen renovations, usually in condo units, but they also offer renovation services for basements and even the whole house.
What I love the most about this company is that they strive to bring your vision to life and within your budget. That’s why you can book a free consultation where you and your project planner will discuss your key design elements and budget considerations.
Former clients have told me that the contractors are professional when it’s time to renovate. They always come on time, and they make sure the working area is relatively neat.
They work fast too, like a well-oiled machine. One client said that he was so impressed with the way they bustled about and still finished right on the dot.
Unfortunately, most clients have an issue with their customer service. Usually, the issue is about misunderstanding (the representative not understanding the client’s question or concern) or about how the client has to call back the contractor to follow up on the booking.
