The 7 Best Beef Wellingtons in Toronto That Would Make Gordon Ramsay Proud

beef-wellingtons-in-toronto

An outer layer of flaky, buttery puff pastry, followed by a rich earthy coating of mushroom duxelles, finally ending with the tender and savoury flavour of the beef tenderloin. With this combination of flavours and textures, it’s no surprise that beef Wellington is beloved by many people, including the iconic chef Gordon Ramsay!

Of course, I can’t resist a perfectly done beef Wellington, and I always order it whenever I’m dining out with loved ones during important celebrations like birthdays and Christmas dinners.

This dish is featured on several menus, but in my opinion, these local restaurants serve the best versions.

A well-established F&B name in Canada, Hy’s Steakhouse and Cocktail Bar is a master of all things steak. And of all the dishes that they offer, their beef Wellington is the ultimate winner in my eyes.

What I love about the beef Wellington here is that it tastes extra rich and indulgent because the mushroom duxelles include foie gras and oysters. It also comes with a red wine reduction, which adds a dark smokiness and a slight sweetness to every bite.

Pro Tips:

This restaurant has several venues perfect for private dining. If you want to host one, you need to fill out this form first. From Wednesday to Saturday (7 pm to 11 pm), there will be live music playing here.

Black+Blue is a fine dining establishment that’s well-known for sticking to the Surf and Turf theme—meaning the menu is filled with both seafood and steak dishes. I love to vary my orders here, but the one I keep coming back to is, of course, the beef Wellington.

The beef Wellington here is big enough to serve two, making it perfect for a romantic date with your partner. I also love that it’s served with truffle jus and pommes purée. Pouring both sauces onto the beef gives it a lovely savoury-sweet combination that thrills my taste buds.

Pro Tip:

Enjoy private dining here with your loved ones. There are several dining spaces to choose from, and they’re all elegant and charming.

Enigma Yorkville

  • Tuesday to Thursday—5 pm to 11 pm
  • Friday and Saturday—12 pm to 3:30 pm, 5 pm to 11 pm

Enigma Yorkville is a Michelin-starred restaurant, so you can’t really go wrong here. The vibes are super elegant, and the plating of the dishes is immaculate.

The beef Wellington isn’t actually a mainstay here. Instead, it serves as a Christmas special. The dish is simply perfection; it has an additional layer of prosciutto for an extra salty-smoky flavour combo.

Since this meal is a Christmas special, it’s only available on Christmas Eve. The waiting makes the experience of eating this dish all the more memorable!

Pro Tips:

You can host your event at this restaurant. The maximum seating is 32 people. The restaurant also offers a professional photographer for an additional fee.

Lucie

– From: restaurantlucie

Address: 100 Yonge St

Operating Hours

  • Monday to Wednesday—11:30 am to 9 pm
  • Thursday to Saturday—5 pm to 9:30 pm

Contact Number: +14167889054

Lucie doesn’t have a Michelin star, but it is recommended by the Michelin Guide, which is still an exceptional feat! This French restaurant combines old-school charm and modern elegance, and the food is to die for as well.

Featured on the lunch menu, the beef Wellington here takes on a French twist, so it has foie gras and truffle beef jus. The flavour profile leans more toward rich and savoury, and I love that flavour combo.

This dish also has a generous portion size, so you can share it with another person. Or you can devour it by yourself, which is what I usually do.

Pro Tips:

If you’re in the mood to splurge, you might want to try Le Comptoir de Lucie. It’s a prix fixe meal with a four-course menu. It’s so extravagant! You can host large parties with up to 65 guests. Or if you already have a venue, you can hire their catering services instead.

The Queen and Beaver Public House is more than just a lively pub; it’s also a sports bar where you can cheer for your favourite team with your fellow sports lovers. Oh, and it also serves an amazing beef Wellington every Wednesday, from 5 pm to closing time!

What I love about the beef Wellington served here is that it’s the traditional version. It doesn’t have any fancy twists, and it’s served with roasted vegetables. The dish tastes and feels very homey and comforting, and I always feel better afterward.

Pro Tip:

You can host a special event here, which already comes with a menu. I recommend choosing the Feasting Menu because that one includes beef Wellington.

Canoe

– From: rwmckinlay

Address: 66 Wellington St W 54th floor, Toronto Dominion Center

Operating Hours

  • Monday, Thursday, and Friday—5 pm to 9:30 pm
  • Tuesday and Wednesday—11:45 am to 11:30 pm

Contact Number: +14163640054

Website

Located on the 54th floor, Canoe is a restaurant with a gorgeous view over the city, making it a great place for an intimate dinner with a loved one. The menu here doesn’t actually have beef Wellington, but sometimes, the chefs bring it out for a limited time—all with some form of innovation.

The last time I came here, the beef tenderloin was stuffed with summer truffles and foie gras. I’m obsessed with this twist because the rich flavour of the stuffing is intense, and it pairs well with the mellow taste of the beef. I can’t wait to try this dish again!

Pro Tips:

Book this restaurant for your private event. You can even have your wedding here. If you already have a venue, you can hire them as a caterer instead.

The Rabbit Hole

  • Friday—11:30 am to 12 am
  • Saturday—4:30 pm to 11 pm

The Rabbit Hole is another restaurant that doesn’t have beef Wellington permanently on the menu. It’s only available during the holiday season, specifically from December 1 to 21. During this period, it’s all I will ever order from this restaurant!

What I love about this restaurant’s take on this classic dish is the truffle red wine jus, which makes every slice even more earthy and smoky, with a hint of bittersweet. The dish is also served with creamy mashed potatoes and roasted carrots, making it a hearty meal.

Pro Tips:

The quantities of beef Wellington prepared here daily are limited and only available on a first-come, first-served basis. I recommend coming here as early as you can to ensure your spot.

Enjoy a whimsical private dinner at this restaurant.
