Before we start, I have a confession to make. I love collecting random stuff! Whether it’s one of those free toys you get from a cereal box or vinyl records of my favourite artists, I just can’t help but keep them all.
But, see, there’s a problem. Throughout my years of collecting whatever I want, I’ve run out of space to store my stuff. Not to mention, I also have seasonal stuff like Christmas decor that I can’t leave out in the open.
Lucky for me, someone is there to save me from my self-inflicted problem: self-storage facilities! Here are the best ones I checked out in the city.
How much do self-storage companies charge for their units? The average price for a 10 ft x 20 ft self-storage container in Toronto is $200 per month. Please take note that your price may vary depending on the container’s size, location, and the total time you’ll rent the container. |

Access Storage, established in 1998, has become a reliable name for self-storage solutions in Toronto. Now a subsidiary of StorageVault Canada, it currently operates 25 locations across the city.
They can provide storage rooms starting from 5’x5’ closet storage rooms to massive 20’x30’ XL rooms. Plus these are climate-controlled and have heaters for the winter season.
Furthermore, they also offer indoor and outdoor secure parking that can accommodate cars, boats, and RVs. I usually park my car at one of their facilities whenever I need to leave the state.
However, what really caught my attention are their portable storage units that can be delivered to your house or business.
Booking their storage units is easy, as you can do so immediately on their website.
Just remember that they don’t allow 24/7 access to their storage units without prior approval!

With three locations in Toronto, Apple Self Storage is one of the more accessible self-storage companies in the city. It was founded by brothers Phil, Jeff, and Scott Allan, who are known for their efforts to preserve one of Toronto’s most iconic buildings, the Dorothea Knitting Mills.
Aside from their commendable preservation efforts, I’m also a big fan of their well-maintained storage rooms that are climate-controlled all year round. They also have covered vehicle storage spaces and rental mailboxes with 24/7 security coverage.
Moreover, they offer a deluxe package with perks like a 10% discount on packing supplies and a delivery acceptance service.
Overall, I have no issues with them except for one time when I had a poor interaction with one of their employees who acted rudely. Sadly, this isn’t an isolated case, and some people also complained about it.

- All storage units are climate-controlled
- Offers deluxe services that include perks like discounted packing supplies
- Offers rental mailboxes
Cons
- Some rude staff
- Most of their storage facilities don’t have indoor car storage

Vaultra Storage is a self-storage facility located in Castlefield. Founded in 2014 by Shawn Shanmuganathan and Prakash Gunasingham, it provides storage room sizes between 25 square feet and 300 square feet.
All of them are climate-controlled and protected 24/7 by a security system with CCTV cameras and perimeter fencing. While their storage rooms are quite nice, I’m a bit bummed out that their Toronto branch doesn’t offer vehicle storage rooms.
Still, I don’t consider that a huge concern, especially because they have a price match pledge! Simply put, if you find a cheaper storage unit from a competitor that has the same size and features, they will lower their price to match it.
Aside from self-storage units, you can also rely on Vaultra Storage to help you move heavy stuff via their moving service.
Pros
- Price match pledge
- All storage units are climate-controlled
- Offers moving services
- Allows 24/7 storage access
Cons
- Their Toronto facility doesn’t have an indoor vehicle storage
- Some gate keypads don’t work properly
Overall, my experience has been great
“I have been using Vaultra Storage for a year, starting with their open shared space before eventually deciding to rent a single office space to enhance productivity. Sahiba has been incredibly helpful throughout my journey at Vaultra, assisting with the logistics of the office and more. Overall, my experience has been great.”

I would recommend this storage facility to absolutely anyone
“I would recommend this storage facility to absolutely anyone. The whole team is a pleasure to deal with but I would like to give a special mention and thanks to Noman and Rushi for all of their help and kindness in dealing with a very sudden and stressful storage situation. The facility is spotless and beautiful and in a great location within the city! The prices are also extremely competitive! You can’t go wrong! Store your items at Vault Castlefield!”

Green Storage is located in Corktown, east of downtown Toronto. It provides personal and business storage rooms with sizes between 25 square feet and 350 square feet.
All these rooms are climate-controlled, except for their outdoor vehicle storage spaces. Sadly, their storage facilities can only be accessed until 11 PM every day.
Despite that minor inconvenience, I still believe they’re one of the best in the city. As their name suggests, they utilise eco-friendly equipment and practices to minimise the carbon footprint and waste they generate.
For example, all of their facilities are made using sustainable construction that incorporates things like low-flow plumbing fixtures and reusable furnace filters. They also rely on solar and geothermal energy whenever possible.

- Storage facilities are made using environmentally sustainable construction techniques
- Offers mailbox rentals and office spaces
Cons
- Doesn’t have an indoor vehicle storage
- Doesn’t allow 24/7 access

XYZ Storage was founded by John Donald and Hal Spradling in 1997. Once known as All-Canadian Self Storage, it grew throughout the years and now operates five facilities across the GTA.
They have a long list of storage rooms from compact 4’x3’x4’ cabinets to massive 10’x30’ rooms. Of course, every room is climate-controlled and guarded with CCTV cameras 24/7.
Sounds awesome, but it’s even better knowing they allow clients to access their units whenever they want! This is made possible by a mobile app that lets you open their automated doors.
Aside from the 24/7 access, I also appreciate the generous discounts they offer to military servicemen and first responders. My cousin will definitely love that!
Sadly, despite the discounts, I still find their prices to be on the higher end.

Cons
- Above-average prices
