Blackbird Security is a Vancouver-based security company founded by Ranko Vukovic in 2015. They’ve now expanded across the country, including Toronto.
For me, they check all the boxes regarding what services a security company should provide, like uniformed security, CCTV monitoring, mobile patrol, and parking enforcement.
What really caught my attention was their security teams designed for specific cases and organisations. For instance, they have specialised security teams that can protect government institutions and elite establishments like luxury stores. They also have a dedicated tactical security force equipped with state-of-the-art body armour and weaponry.
I consider these tactical guards to be a somewhat elite force, as they’re also trained in conflict de-escalation, first aid, and the use of force.
Sadly, some clients reported that a couple of Blackbird Security’s guys were rude to them.

Their security services include concierge security, mobile patrol, event security, and parking enforcement. However, the premier service they offer is executive protection, which is designed to protect VIPs and high-level executives.
The ability to protect VIPs is already cool, but what’s even cooler is the state-of-the-art equipment they use that’s sourced from their sister company, Condor Technologies. They have bulletproof cars, CCTV cameras, and more.
For homeowners and condominium managers, they can also do security audits to assess any vulnerabilities and provide detailed recommendations on how to fix these security flaws.
Sadly, being a popular company means they often get fully booked quickly.

Darkcity Security in Taylor-Massey offers security services for events, condominiums, retail stores, construction sites, and malls.
That’s already a lot, and I’m more impressed to find that they also offer mobile patrol and parking control. They even have a secured transportation service that can deliver sensitive items like private documents and valuables in the Greater Toronto Area.
Of course, this service is carried out by their team of professional guards, who will not take breaks until your package is delivered to its destination. The only issue I have is that it costs $50.
Another interesting thing I found about Darkcity Security is that they offer training courses that range from first aid to self-defence techniques. I might even sign up for one of these sometime soon!

Their services aren’t limited there, as they also offer mobile patrol and parking enforcement. Moreover, they have a neighbourhood watch service that can guard and teach residents how to avoid break-ins.
And if you need someone to investigate discreetly, they have a team of private investigators who can assist you with issues like insurance claims and cheating spouse investigations.
While I find their services to be more than adequate, there are a few things they can improve on. One of those is their tendency to take more than a week to respond to enquiries or concerns.

The background of their founders is amazing, but what’s even better is that this company has won the Consumer’s Choice Award for Best Security Guard Services in the GTA from 2019 to 2021.
As for their services, they offer mobile patrols, construction site guards, concierge guards, and traffic signallers. There’s also firewatch security whose role is to monitor fire risks and respond promptly.
These services are monitored 24/7 in their operations centre.
Sadly, I’ve heard their management can be rude towards subordinates and clients.
