The Best Samosas in Toronto I Want SAMOre Of!

samosas-in-toronto

Whenever I need a treat that’s quick and satisfying, one of my go-to choices is samosa—or, rather, samosas. This dumpling-like treat has a spiced filling of vegetables and meat, and it’s small enough that I can devour a handful with no problem.

Oh, and the best part about samosas is that they taste even better with chutney. The bright, fruity, and sometimes spicy sauce complements the samosa’s savoury flavours.

Many restaurants in Toronto offer amazing versions of this pastry. Here are my absolute favourites!

I have to commend this restaurant for its name; it’s apt! Considering the quality of samosas served here, this spot truly is the Sultan of Samosas.

My go-to option is the chicken paprika samosa; I love how earthy and refreshing it tastes, and the paprika adds a splash of spice that awakens my taste buds.

The traditional beef samosa is also a great choice. It’s more on the savory side, with a hint of heat from the chilies. It’s no surprise it’s a bestseller.

Pro Tip:

This restaurant offers catering and wholesale

Samosa King

– From: k__j.foodie

Address: 5210 Finch Ave E, Scarborough

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—9 am to 9 pm

Contact Number: +14163320944

If you’re in Scarborough, one shop you can check out when you’re craving samosas is Samosa King. This place is always busy, no matter the time of day, and that’s a good sign.

Their samosas are much bigger than I’m used to, and they’re stuffed with spiced potatoes, carrots, and peas. Because of their size, I feel full after one, but I still eat several after because I can’t get enough of their savoury and spiced flavours.

Pro Tip:

You can book them to cater your special event. Just call the restaurant to let them know.

The Samosarie

– From: thesamosarie

Address: 1904 Danforth Ave

Operating Hours: Tuesday to Sunday—11 am to 6 pm

Contact Number: +14164219990

Website

What I love about The Samosarie is that their samosas are colourful—literally, the dough is dyed in all sorts of colours! So, whenever I come here, I order differently coloured samosas so my plate looks like a rainbow.

This restaurant is also halal and has vegan options. I’m a big fan of the Sunrise Masala Dosa, which is filled with potatoes. The predominant flavours are curry and mustard, and sometimes, I add a dollop of hot sauce for an extra kick of spice.

Pro Tip:

You can actually order the samosas frozen. I recommend doing so so that you can have samosas at home.

Capital Sweet and Samosa

– From: jeeterz_toronto_food

Address: 62 Overlea Blvd, East York

Operating Hours

  • Monday—10 am to 7 pm
  • Tuesday to Sunday—10 am to 9 pm

Contact Number: +14164676060

Capital Sweet and Samosa has been one of my favourite places to go for cheap eats; seriously, I can order a bunch of samosas here (think more than 15) without feeling like I’m breaking the bank!

It also helps that the samosas are delicious. They don’t taste oily or greasy at all, and the filling is perfectly savoury. There’s also a bit of spiciness, but it’s not too much, so no need to worry if you have low spice tolerance.

Pro Tip:

Come here as soon as the shop opens so you’ll get your samosas fresh and still piping hot.

Samosa and Sweet Factory

– From: samosaandsweetfactory

Address: 1850 Albion Rd #6, Etobicoke

Operating Hours

  • Monday to Thursday—8 am to 8 pm
  • Friday to Sunday—7:30 am to 8 pm

Contact Number: +14162131165

Website

Samosa and Sweet Factory is more of a store than a restaurant, but I don’t mind it because so far, the samosas I’ve gotten from here are delicious.

The samosas are pretty bite-sized, but they’re full of potatoes and green peas. The moment I take a bite, the filling just oozes out in a thick, almost paste-like consistency.

The samosas here are also served with two types of chutney: a green and red one. The green one adds a nice, minty flavour, while the red chutney packs quite the spicy punch. I love combining the two sauces.

Pro Tip:

This place tends to attract long lines no matter the time, so keep that in mind. The line moves pretty fast, so don’t worry.

Canbe Foods

– From: canbefoods

Address: 1760 Ellesmere Rd, Scarborough

Operating Hours

  • Sunday to Thursday—10 am to 9 pm
  • Friday and Saturday—10 am to 10 pm

Contact Number: +14162982219

Website

Canbe Foods has been a staple in Scarborough for more than three decades now, and that’s how you know it’s good. The prices for the samosas are relatively cheap, too, so you can bulk order them if you want (which is what I often do).

Since this restaurant specializes in South Indian and Sri Lankan cuisines, the samosas pack quite a lot of heat. I really like the chicken samosa, which has slightly smoky flavours, and the cheese samosa, which is salty and, well, super cheesy.

Pro Tip:

If you find their samosas too spicy, I recommend ordering rose milk. This drink helps cool down the heat, and it’s also mildly sweet, which is a bonus.

The Cottage Cheese

– From: thecottagecheeseto

Address: 64 Oxford St

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—12 pm to 10:30 pm

Contact Number: +16473688633

Website

Just a warning: The Cottage Cheese doesn’t serve traditional samosas. But they’re so good that I have to recommend this restaurant!

To be fair, their samosas don’t totally deviate from the traditional recipe. The filling is still made with savoury potatoes and other vegetables.

It’s in the sauce where the restaurant takes creative liberties. Every samosa is served with sweetened yogurt, tamarind chutney, and mint sauce, and when you combine all of them together, you get a symphony of sweet, sour, and refreshing flavours. I love it!

Pro Tip:

Give a fellow samosa lover a gift card from this restaurant.

Puff Samosa

– From: podobelly

Address: 30 Bertrand Ave Unit-A3, Scarborough

Operating Hours: Monday to Saturday—10:30 am to 7:30 pm

Contact Number: +14167552222

Puff Samosa may not seem like much from the outside, but don’t let that fool you because the food here is absolutely great! This place specializes in Uzbek cuisine, which is incredibly hard to find in the GTA.

The samosas, or samsas, here are absolutely huge; one is enough to make me full. The dough is also on the flakier side, which I actually prefer, and the filling is generous.

The potatoes and beef are wonderfully spiced, and they taste a bit sweet, too, which at first threw me off, but eventually, I learned to appreciate the flavour.

Pro Tip:

This place is pretty small, so it gets pretty packed during rush hour (around 12 pm to 1 pm). I recommend coming here as soon as it opens or sometime in the afternoon.

MotiMahal Restaurant

– From: motimahalrestaurant

Address: 1422 Gerrard St E

Operating Hours

  • Monday—11:30 am to 9 pm
  • Tuesday to Sunday—11:30 am to 10 pm

Contact Number: +14164613111

Website

MotiMahal Restaurant is one of my favourite East End restaurants because the Indian dishes here are absolutely delicious! I’m partial to their curry dishes, but their samosas are a hit as well.

I recommend getting the samosa chana because it’s flavourful. The crispy samosas are served on a bed of chickpea curry; the contrasting textures and the predominant savoury, earthy, and spicy flavours make for a memorable bite.

Pro Tip:

This restaurant is super busy in the evening, so I recommend coming here in the morning or afternoon.

My Roti Place/My Dosa Place

– From: myrotiplace

Address: 12 Queens Quay W, Shoppes of the World Trade Centre

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—8 am to 4 am

Contact Number: +16473503672

Website

My Roti Place/My Dosa Place is open until 4 am, making it one of my go-to spots when I need late-night food. I usually go for the roti, but the samosas are amazing as well.

I recommend ordering the street samosa chaat. These samosas are jam-packed with earthy and spicy potatoes and gravy, and then, they’re topped with mint, tamarind, and yogurt. So, you can taste a wonderful medley of sweet and sour flavours as well.

If you want a cheaper alternative, you can get the vegetable samosa. It’s simple and straightforward but oh so delicious and hearty.

Pro Tip:

To make your meal even more filling, order roti with your samosas. The great thing is that you can actually build your own roti here.

Bombay Chowpatty

Address: 1386 Gerrard St E

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—12 pm to 12 am

Contact Number: +14164058080

Website

Bombay Chowpatty is a humble spot on Gerrard Street, and it’s one of my favourite places to go to get delicious street food. Of course, their samosas are my go-to snack.

The samosa chaat comes with two samosas with an earthy and herbaceous vegetable filling. It’s also served with chana, which adds a nice hint of spice that hits you right at the end.

Sometimes, I also order tamarind chutney and yogurt with my samosas because I love the punch of tanginess I get from them.

Pro Tip:

This spot has a patio area. You might want to take a seat there to enjoy the sunshine and fresh breeze.

Leela Indian Food Bar

  • Friday and Saturday—12 pm to 1 am

Leela Indian Food Bar is a beloved Indian restaurant in Toronto, best known for its laid-back vibe and casual terrace area. I’m obsessed with the butter chicken here, but the samosa chaat is a close second.

I love how crispy the samosas are here, and inside is a thick, earthy filling of potatoes and peas. The samosas are also topped with chickpeas, tamarind and green chutneys, chaat masala, and creamy yogurt, so you can enjoy additional tangy and spicy flavours.

Pro Tip:

If you want to host an event here, fill out this form.

Rikki Tikki

– From: rikki.tikki.to

Address: 209 Augusta Ave

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—11 am to 1:30 am

Contact Number: +14167923229

Website

If you’re visiting the foodie heaven that is the Kensington Market, then one spot you have to check out is Rikki Tikki.

I always feel overwhelmed scanning their menu because there are just too many options, but I usually get the samosa chaat because it’s so comforting.

For this dish, the samosas are smashed and then topped with chickpeas and sauces. The result is an interesting texture—a combination of mushy and crispy—and the flavour is earthy, tangy, and spicy. I like to add more yogurt for even more tanginess.

Pro Tips:

On clear days, take a seat at their patio. The fresh breeze makes the dining experience even better. If you’re dining with a group, you might want to dine in the semi-private dining area at the back. Call the restaurant in advance to reserve your spot.

Chaska Indian Street Food

– From: chaskaobsession

Address: 218 Adelaide St W

Operating Hours

  • Sunday to Thursday—11 am to 10 pm
  • Friday and Saturday—11 am to 12 am

Contact Number: +14163049091

Website

What I love about Chaska Indian Street Food is that their food honours tradition while also promoting innovation. For example, they have a dish here called samosa sliders. I never would’ve thought that samosas could work as a slider patty, but I’m glad to be proven wrong.

I love the contrasting textures of this dish: first is the soft pillowy bun, followed by the crunchy samosa exterior. Then, the thick filling oozes out, and I’m bombarded with earthy and savoury flavours. The sliders are also slathered with mint and tamarind chutneys, which add a tangy zing.

Pro Tips:

This restaurant has its own app, available on both App Store and Google Play Store. You can order food directly from this app.If you’re planning an event, you can book their catering services.
