Back when everything was locked down, I decided to pick up the piano, mostly through YouTube tutorials and a lot of trial and error. It was fun, but there’s only so much you can figure out on your own before you hit a wall.
Now that I have more free time, I finally signed up for lessons, and it has made such a difference! It’s nice to have a teacher who can keep you motivated, fix your mistakes early, and make learning so much easier.
That’s why I urge others to do the same. To make things a bit simpler, I’ve put together a list of the best piano teachers in Toronto to help you find the right fit.
How much do piano lessons cost in Toronto?
Private piano lessons in Toronto will usually cost you around $60 per hour. Take note that this price can vary depending on the teacher’s experience, lesson length, and whether it’s in-person or online.

Rockstar Music Central offers piano lessons through its in-home and online music school model across Canada. The program is built around matching students with instructors based on their goals, schedule, musical interests, and location.
Their piano lessons emphasize one-on-one instruction, allowing teachers to tailor each session to the student’s skill level and learning style. This makes the program suitable for complete beginners, casual learners, and students working toward more structured goals such as music theory or RCM exams.
A key highlight is the inclusion of instructors trained in piano performance, theory, and RCM exam preparation. This gives students the flexibility to pursue either a more formal music education path or a personalized learning experience focused on creativity and enjoyment.
The piano program also benefits from flexible lesson delivery, including both in-home and online options. This setup allows students to learn in a comfortable and familiar environment without the added inconvenience of travel.
Performance opportunities are also incorporated into the learning journey, giving piano students chances to build confidence and gain practical musical experience. Concerts, community events, and live performances help reinforce the skills developed during private lessons.
A free trial lesson is available so students can meet their piano instructor before committing long term. This helps create stronger student-teacher compatibility and supports more consistent long-term progress.
Overall, Rockstar Music Central’s piano lesson program focuses on personalization, flexibility, and long-term musical growth. By combining private instruction with performance opportunities and structured learning support, the music school offers a well-rounded experience for aspiring pianists of different ages and skill levels.

12:30 PM – 8:00 PM (FRI)

Toronto Arts Academy is one of the best places to learn piano in the city. Since 2013, they’ve built a solid reputation with 35 experienced teachers offering in-person and online lessons.
They stick to proven methods like RCM, Bastien, and Alfred’s Basic Piano, but what makes them stand out is their focus on more than just technique. They also teach music improvisation and composition, which adds a creative edge to lessons.
Another thing worth highlighting is their free weekly group classes, giving students a chance to make up for missed private lessons. On top of that, their free student performances help build confidence and showcase progress after weeks of training.
However, one downside is that they’re pretty popular, so getting the exact time slot you want might be tricky. Their pricing is also a bit higher than independent instructors’, so keep that in mind.

If convenience is a big deal for you, Canada Music Academy is worth checking out. They’re actually one of the oldest music schools in Toronto, having been around since 1995.
One of their biggest perks is lesson flexibility. You can take in-studio, online, or in-home lessons, which is clutch if you don’t want to deal with travelling to the school.
By the way, they also welcome international students, offering online piano lessons in languages like French and German.
They even have their own shop where you can buy or rent a piano, so you don’t have to look elsewhere to get started.
Unfortunately, I’ve heard from some students that their teachers occasionally miss classes. It’s also a bit annoying that they only accept payments via credit card and e-transfer.

Julia Music Studio is where I decided to sharpen my piano skills, and honestly, it’s been a great fit. The whole place is run solo by Julia Dai, a dedicated teacher with a doctorate in Musical Arts.
A key reason why I signed up is her teaching style. She uses solid methods like RCM and Yamaha, which really helped me build a strong foundation. She’s also amazing at ear training, which means I’ve learned to play without constantly staring at the keys.
The best part? No big upfront costs, no deposits—just pay per lesson. It’s such a relief knowing you’re not locked into anything, and you can stop whenever you want.
Just a heads-up: her studio is in North York, so if you’re a bit far, you’ll probably want to try her online lessons or look elsewhere.

Another North York-based piano studio I recommend is Encore Piano Studios. They’ve been around since 2001, with a team of RCM-certified instructors who offer customized lessons to help you learn quickly.
One thing that I really like about them is how easy they make it to get started. They offer a complimentary consultation where you can chat about what you’re looking for in lessons and figure out the best approach.
Furthermore, there’s a free introductory piano class, which gives you a chance to experience their teaching style before making any commitments. If you’ve got friends or family interested in learning, they even throw in two free lesson passes to share.
Sadly, they don’t provide online lessons. While they do offer in-home lessons, those are only available to those living in North York and its surrounding suburbs.
Encore Piano is a great place for piano lessons

6. Musiprof

Lessons offered: In-person, group, and online piano lessons
Address: 555 Wilson Ave, Unit 1103E Toronto, Ontario M3H0C6
Phone number: (647) 800-6926
Business hours: By appointment
We recently started taking piano lessons with Musiprof and overall, we’d say the experience is very positive, with a few minor things to keep in mind.
From the very first session, one thing that stood out was how tailored everything felt. The instructor asked about our current level, musical tastes (we mentioned we like pop and jazz more than strictly classical), and what kinds of goals we had. It was refreshing to feel heard rather than just slotted into a one-size-fits-all class. Over the next few weeks we discovered that our teacher helped us build both technique (hand coordination, reading sheet music) and also begin playing bits of songs we genuinely enjoy, which kept us motivated. That blend of structure and fun is a real strength of Musiprof.
On the practical side, the flexibility is very helpful. We were able to choose whether lessons happen online or in-person (and in our case chose online), which meant we could fit them into our schedule without too much disruption. Also, the platform’s system of selecting teachers and – in our view – the level of communication leading up to the class (scheduling, pre-lesson guidance) made the process smooth.
If we were to suggest a caution, it’s that because each teacher is slightly different, the pacing and style vary — so if you’re very particular about method or want highly accelerated progression, it’s worth discussing that early on. Also, consistent practice at home is essential: the lessons will guide you, but most of the progress comes from you spending time at the piano between classes.
In summary, Musiprof offered us a thoughtful, adaptable, and enjoyable way to learn piano. We left each session feeling like we’d made some concrete progress, and we’re looking forward to continuing.
7. Hear & Now

Lessons offered: In-person, group, and online piano lessons
Address: 65 Glen Manor Dr, Toronto, ON M4E 2X2, Canada
Phone number: Contact them via their website
Business hours: By appointment basis
We recently took a few lessons with Hear & Now Music Lessons (in Toronto) and thought it would be helpful to share our impressions across three key criteria: teaching style, student-experience, and flexibility.
From the outset, the teaching style really stood out. Our instructor asked what kinds of songs we enjoyed, what our goals were (playing for pleasure, maybe performing once, or just getting comfortable at the keyboard), and tailored the lesson accordingly. We appreciated that rather than starting strictly with dry drills or pieces we felt disconnected from, they wove in music we liked and worked from there. That made us feel more engaged and less like “just another student.”
In terms of student experience, the atmosphere was warm and supportive. The lessons were scheduled in a clean, comfortable space (or available online) so we didn’t feel stressed. We also liked that the instructor paused regularly to check our comfort, ask if we were following, and offered little tips (posture, hand-position, mindful practice). After the session we felt like we’d achieved something concrete, not just “went through a lesson”.
Finally, regarding flexibility: Hear & Now offered good options for both in-person and online lessons, which mattered for us since we had a busy schedule. We were able to book slightly off-peak times and it felt easy to coordinate changes when needed. On the flip side, if we were being picky, sometimes the pace felt a bit slower than we’d hoped (we were eager to move faster) and we found that consistent self-practice between lessons was essential for our progress.
In summary, our time with Hear & Now left us feeling encouraged, comfortable, and motivated to keep improving. If you’re looking for piano lessons that respect your individual style, fit into a busy life, and give you a genuine sense of progress, we’d warmly recommend checking them out.
8. Pitch Perfect

We recently enrolled in piano lessons with Perfect Pitch, and the experience has been nothing short of inspiring. From the very first session, it was clear that this isn’t just a place to learn notes and technique—it’s a place where music truly comes alive. The instructors are not only highly skilled musicians but also exceptional teachers who know how to adapt their approach to each student’s learning style and goals.
What stood out to us most was the balance between structure and creativity. Lessons are thoughtfully organized, with clear progression and encouragement to build solid fundamentals, yet there’s always room to explore personal interests and musical expression. Whether working on a classical piece or improvising a favorite song, the teachers make every moment engaging and accessible.
The atmosphere at Perfect Pitch is warm, welcoming, and free of pressure. Each lesson feels encouraging rather than intimidating, which makes it easy to stay motivated and excited to practice. The feedback is always constructive and supportive, helping build confidence along with skill.

10. Neighbour Note

Lessons offered: In-studio, in-home, online, and group piano lessons
Address: 407 Annette St
Phone number: +1 647-492-3696
Business hours: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM (MON-SUN)
Neighbour Note has been around since 2010 and is a decent option if you’re looking for piano lessons that fit your schedule. You can do in-studio, online, or even in-home lessons, which is pretty convenient.
What caught my eye is that they don’t just stick to the basics. Along with regular piano lessons, they offer specialized programs for jazz and classical music, so you can really focus on the style that fits you best.
Another thing I appreciate is their siblings discount. Music lessons can get expensive, so it’s nice that families with multiple kids can save a little. They also offer a free trial lesson, which is nice if you want to test things out first.
That said, lessons here aren’t cheap, especially if you don’t qualify for the discount. They also require students to pay for their lessons upfront in monthly payments.
The teachers are great
“Neighbour Notte is amazing. My kids love going to their piano and guitar lessons—the teachers are great. Super knowledgeable and great with kids. I’d recommend it to anyone who’s looking to open the world of music to their kids.”
-Airlie McCann, Google Reviews
