The best home health care services in Toronto provide reliable support

best-home-health-care-toronto
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Although Toronto has quality nursing homes, my grandma’s one clear request when her joints stiffened was to age in place. Family and work obligations, sadly, made it nearly impossible to manage.

Good thing one of my workmates suggested looking into home care agencies. The advice added up, as trained carers adjust to a client’s daily life and assist with ADLs (activities of daily living) or manage medical needs.

We didn’t rush the decision, of course. Compassion, qualifications, compatibility, and several other factors came into play.

If you’d rather skip that long vetting process, taking a look below might help. Toronto’s most reliable providers are down there.

How much do home health care services cost in Toronto?

In Toronto, home health care services usually cost $35–$45 for an hour of general support, whereas nursing care is often priced between $45 and $80.

The factors that influence home care fees include the level of care required (e.g., basic, nursing, and specialized), the type of services, the frequency or duration, and the client’s location.

How We Chose

Experience: We chose agencies that have been providing various types of home care services for over 5 years. Their respective staff were also checked for formal education, certifications, experience (at least 3 years), and specialized training.

Company histories and CVs were used to validate.
Communication Skills: To rate politeness, transparency, proactivity, clarity (especially in explaining packages/prices), and response speed, our team relied on mail/phone queries and interviews. Agencies with 24/7 helplines scored higher.
Dependability: Case studies, interviews, and personal experience influenced how we graded punctuality and reliability. The availability of contingency plans, background checks, internal accountability systems, and timely staffing also mattered.
Attention to Detail: The same methods allowed us to rate how observant the carers are in noticing subtle changes in routine, mood, or health. Unsurprisingly, adherence to personalized care plans and precise medication management was considered.
Pricing: We landed on the most cost-effective options by comparing hourly rates and packages, considering overall service. Toronto’s usual price points were also kept in mind.

Such great and personable homecare

“I’m grateful to Marilyn and her team at Kells Agency for providing such great and personable homecare for my mom.  I love that Marilyn is a small agency who will find you just that right PSW for your needs.  Plus it’s great to be able to call her directly when you need to reach her instead of an automated call center where you are put on hold for 10 minutes just to speak with someone.   I would highly recommend Kells agency to take care of your most vulnerable family members.”

HealthCasa

Address: Toronto, ON (serving the Greater Toronto Area and Southern Ontario)

Contact Details: 647-691-5150

Operating Hours: Open 24 Hours, 7 Days a Week

Website

Finding reliable in-home health care in Toronto that goes beyond basic personal support is harder than it sounds. Most home care agencies in the GTA follow a familiar script: a PSW for daily personal support, a companion for social visits, and not much beyond that. HealthCasa takes a fundamentally different approach and for families across Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Oakville, Hamilton, and the broader Southern Ontario region, the difference is considerable.

Rather than limiting care to personal support, HealthCasa brings a full roster of licensed allied health practitioners directly to your door. The referral shuffle that so often comes with managing multiple care needs — booking separate appointments across different providers, arranging transport, navigating waiting rooms, simply disappears.

This is where HealthCasa genuinely stands apart from other home care providers in Toronto. Their in-home services include:

  • Personal Support Worker (PSW) care — assistance with daily activities, bathing, grooming, and personal hygiene
  • Companionship care — social support, conversation, and help with errands and light tasks
  • Registered Massage Therapy — professional in-home massage therapy for pain relief, stress, and recovery
  • Physiotherapy — in-home physiotherapy in Toronto and the GTA for post-surgical recovery, injury rehabilitation, and mobility improvement
  • Chiropody and Foot Care — professional in-home foot care and chiropody services for diabetic foot care, nail care, and preventative treatment
  • Hearing Services — mobile hearing assessments and support delivered at home
  • Home Safety and Mobility Assessments — professional evaluations to support independence and reduce fall risk at home
  • Dietitian Services — personalized in-home nutrition support for seniors and adults managing chronic conditions, recovery, and healthy aging
  • Mental Health Services — compassionate in-home mental health support to promote emotional wellbeing and coping
  • Social Work Services — guidance, counselling, care navigation, and support for patients and families facing health and life transitions
  • Psychotherapy — professional therapy services delivered at home to support mental health, stress, anxiety, depression, and overall wellbeing
  • Speech Therapy — in-home speech-language support for communication challenges, cognitive changes, and swallowing concerns

For older adults managing chronic conditions, recovering from surgery, or navigating mobility challenges, that breadth of in-home health services can be the difference between fragmented care and a single, coordinated team.

HealthCasa is one of the few home health care providers serving all of Southern Ontario, not just the City of Toronto. Whether you’re in Toronto’s east end, Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Oakville, or further afield across Southern Ontario, HealthCasa can connect you with a qualified practitioner in your area. For families coordinating care across multiple locations, that regional reach is a meaningful advantage.

Appointments are structured entirely around the client. There are no waiting rooms, no parking fees, and no commutes — practitioners travel to you, on a schedule that works for your household. HealthCasa is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, making them one of the most accessible mobile health care options in the GTA and one of the very few providers offering true round-the-clock availability.

All practitioners are thoroughly vetted, insured, and licensed in their respective disciplines.

One practical note: for specialized services such as in-home chiropody or hearing assessments in Toronto, booking ahead is advisable as practitioner availability varies by area and service type.

For families across Toronto, the GTA, or Southern Ontario who need more than a personal care visit — a genuine multi-disciplinary allied health team, available around the clock and delivered at home — HealthCasa is the most complete option on this list.

Pros

  • Most comprehensive in-home service range in Toronto: PSW, companionship, registered massage therapy, physiotherapy, chiropody and foot care, hearing services, home safety assessments mobility assessments
  • Serves all of the GTA and Southern Ontario — Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Oakville, Hamilton, and more
  • Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • All practitioners licensed, vetted, and insured
  • No waiting rooms, no commutes — care comes to you

Cons

  • Specialist services (e.g., chiropody, hearing assessments) may require advance booking
  • Practitioner availability varies by area

“It truly makes a difference to her quality of life”

“My mom was extremely happy with the care provided by Chiropodist Simone. She took her time and did very delicate work, as well as provided excellent advice for future prevention. We have booked her again. Chiropodist Philip has been wonderful since Simone became unavailable. I would also like to pass along my thanks to everyone in your team for the excellent foot care my mom has received. It truly makes a difference to her quality of life, and her family also appreciates it.”

— Michal, Google Review

“Excellent in every way”

“Inayath has been helping me recover from shoulder surgery. He is excellent in every way — he explains what we’re doing, he explains why we’re doing it, and he’s just a lovely person to work with.”

Right at Home

right-at-home

Address: 1 Concorde Gate #702, North York

Contact Details: +1 437-700-0260

Operating Hours: Daily – Open 24 hours

Website

Right at Home’s full-range support is one factor our family opted for them. You see, their home services cover personal, companion, nursing, and specialty care.

Both the package planning and matching processes are done with care, too. They looked deeply into my grandma’s history, needs, routines, personalities, and interests to avoid mismatches.

It’s driving services, however, that distinguish them from a large number of alternatives. If needed, clients may arrange for driving companions; any destination works.

Where they fall short is in optional or rehabilitation therapies, namely physiotherapy or massages (which these services provide). A few competitors offer those add-ons.

Some of Right at Home’s caregivers have also been flagged for minor slip-ups, like forgetting to keep slippers indoors or using bathroom cleaners in the wrong area.

The upside is they’re open to feedback, and you can request changes smoothly thanks to the round-the-clock helpline.

Pros

  • Holistic care
  • Intensive matching process
  • Has driving companions
  • Addresses concerns swiftly

Cons

  • Minor slip-ups like forgetting indoor slippers
  • No massage or physiotherapy services

Kind, Compassionate

My dad requested to come for palliative care. I wasn’t sure I could do this but the support of Right At Home coordinators and PSWs Muhammed, Safia. Michelle and Beverly made it possible. They were kind, compassionate and helped guide my Dad and my family during our most vulnerable moments for a peaceful transition.

Exceptional Care

Right at Home has been a wonderful support for my mother. Her PSW Laura, provided exceptional care, companionship, and professionalism, setting the bar high. Another caregiver who filled in was also excellent, ensuring consistency and comfort.

The agency has been professional, efficient, and truly caring, giving us peace of mind. I highly recommend Right at Home to anyone in need of reliable and compassionate home care.

Thank you for everything!

Home Instead

home-instead

Address: 165 Avenue Rd, Suite 500

Contact Details: +1 416-972-5096

Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours

Website

Home Instead’s approach since 2002 has been nurse-directed care. Their nurse managers train non-medical caregivers to perform delegated tasks, such as monitoring vital signs and blood glucose.

You can also hire them for ADL support and companionship services. That makes the agency a well-rounded one, since a couple of options stick to medical or personal care alone.

We also commend the reliable comms team. From experience, they do provide 24/7 support, which has led to efficient scheduling and real-time updates.

One trade-off is the absence of driving services. Home Instead’s caregivers can help with rideshare or taxi appointments, but they don’t drive clients themselves.

There’s a 4-hour minimum per booking as well, so hiring them for shorter tasks or brief check-ins isn’t really cost-effective.

But to be fair, the rates are competitive for Toronto, and the care plans aren’t fixed. Even live-in support is billed daily.

Pros

  • Open since 2002
  • Holistic care
  • Nurse-directed approach
  • Live-in option

Cons

  • No driving services
  • 4-hour booking minimum

Their whole team is supportive

Home Instead has been taking care of my mother with dementia, and they have been absolutely incredible!! Their whole team is supportive, professional, and genuinely caring. Anna, Dawane, and Subarna have been especially amazing — always patient, compassionate, and dedicated to providing exceptional care. Communication is excellent, scheduling is smooth, and they are very respectful to all. Their kindness and commitment have made a real difference for our family. We’re so grateful for everything they do and highly recommend Home Instead!

Kind, Patient, and Genuinely Caring

Home Instead has been incredible with my wife’s 100-year-old grandmother. The caregivers are kind, patient, and genuinely caring. She feels safe, happy, and looked after every day. We’re so grateful for their warmth and reliability.

C-Care Health Services

c-care-health-services

Address: 741 Sheppard Ave W #9

Contact Details: +1 416-724-2273

Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours

Website

The scope of C-Care Health Services is wider than most. Home and nursing care aside, this 2002-founded agency can staff medical facilities and match patients with caregivers while they’re still in a hospital.

Better yet, people speak highly of their specialized care teams. Even picky clients with nursing and HR backgrounds were impressed by the reliability and sensitivity they showed.

Given C-Cares’ rigorous vetting, that’s no shocker. Registered Nurses (RNs), Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs), and Personal Support Workers (PSWs) make up the workforce.

The front desk hasn’t always been spot-on, though. Complaints about delayed attention have been raised before.

We also found their main office a tad busy. Lots of clients tend to swing by even on weekdays.

Still, waiting isn’t a daft move, especially if you value Toronto-friendly hourly rates, made all the sweeter by free in-home assessments and flexible contracts.

Pros

  • Open since 2002
  • Fully insured team
  • Wide range of services
  • No long-term contracts

Cons

  • Occasional slow reception
  • The main office can get busy

Outstanding

My experience with C-Care was outstanding. From the initial email correspondence to the support call with Raymond, every interaction was handled with professionalism, attentiveness, and genuine care. Although I ended up not needing their services anymore, the team’s responsiveness and dedication left a lasting impression. I would confidently turn to C-Care for future needs and highly recommend their services to anyone seeking reliable, client-focused support.

So Helpful

I called and spoke to Raymond about getting someone urgently to be with a family member who was in the ER overnight on a Sunday. He was so helpful and got the ball rolling to get a PSW for me even though I told him there was a chance I may not need his services. They did all that for no charge and it was so helpful knowing they were there even though I ended up not needing them. Definitely will keep them in mind for future needs.

Guardian Home Care

Address: 396 Moore Ave

Contact Details: +1 416-613-8570

Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours

Website

People who equate hardware with quality might want to give Guardian Home Care a look. From 2019 to 2023, they took home the Canadian Business Excellence Award.

Another positive bit is their strict and convenient matching process. Options are first discussed over the phone, followed by a detailed in-home consult where an Intake Care Manager collects health-related and personal details.

That doesn’t mean they’re not ideal for crises. Our interviewees say the agency responds quickly to last-minute requests, mainly for overnight nursing care.

It’s crucial to note, however, that most of the competition is way older. Guardian Home Care’s 2013 opening didn’t happen a few years ago, sure, but they’re still our freshest entrant.

You could also say they’re among the busiest. Monday is your safest bet for an office stop.

On the upside, clients don’t need to pay a deposit upfront, and cancelling only requires a 4-hour heads-up.

Pros

  • Awarded
  • Responds quickly
  • No upfront deposits required
  • Intensive matching process

Cons

  • The main office is often busy

Goes Above and Beyond

As a professional, I am often asked to make referrals for home care services in communities that we do not support. As such, I have had requests to recommend a reputable and reliable company in Toronto. I have had the personal experience of recommending both a client who was moving to Toronto, as well as to a close personal friend who was seeking care for his Mom. Without hesitation, I recommended Guardian Home Care as a company that I would choose for my own family. The feedback I received from both these referrals was exceptional. The team at Guardian Home Care goes above and beyond to ensure families are well supported with caring, competent and reliable staff. If you are looking for senior home care, it is without hesitation that I would recommend this company.

Personalised Compassionate Care

Guardian Home Care Toronto is the Agency that I enthusiastically recommend for personalized compassionate care at home. When my Mother came home from the hospital we sought out an agency that could re-orient her to her previous level of independence which required an emphasis on improved mobility. The staff found ways to motivate her to do the work necessary to reach this goal. I credit this truly remarkable staff with helping my Mother retain her independence.

Eldercare Home Health Inc.

eldercare-home-health-inc

Address: 396 Moore Ave

Contact Details: +1 416-482-8292

Operating Hours: Mon to Fri – 8 am to 5 pm

Website

We talked about experience, so it’s only right to mention Eldercare Home Health. They’ve been providing care services since 1995, after all.

Range-wise, the essentials, mainly personal, nursing, and specialized care, are ticked. Short-term and long-term setups can be arranged.

What’s handy is they throw in free in-home assessments as well, and they’re conducted by an RN, not a business manager or PSW.

In fact, all of their solutions are supervised by an RN, whom you can phone 24/7 without incurring extra fees. The majority of clients say they’re highly responsive.

Eldercare also has things not offered by most agencies. Last we checked, they’re our sole pick with massage therapy and physiotherapy services.

As for the drawbacks, client reach is the obvious one, mostly because they exclusively focus on seniors.

Driving services aren’t available either. Toronto has agencies that come with driving companions.

Pros

  • Open since 1995
  • Nurse-directed approach
  • Wide range of services
  • Responds quickly

Cons

  • Exclusive to seniors
  • No driving services

Calm and Empathetic

My father has dementia and when my mother fell and broke her hip, suddenly there was no one to care for him. I called several agencies but when I spoke to Lisa, I got the feeling that this was the agency for us. Lisa came to my parent’s house to meet with me and my dad in person while my mom was in hospital. She was calm and empathetic and knew what this whole horrible experience was like for us. She chatted with my dad and he liked her immediately. We have had several caregivers form Eldercare and they have all been punctual, reliable, helpful and understanding. Now that my mom is home we still employ Eldercare to help us out. I have nothing but good things to say about the service. If you need to change the timing of care due to appointments or activities the call centre is easily accessible and responsive. Highly recommend.

Aviva, Google Review

Polite, Pleasant and Reliable

We engaged Eldercare Home Health about two months ago, when my parents’ ability to manage on their own changed suddenly. Although it was right before the holidays, Eldercare responded quickly and soon had help in place. Our team are polite, pleasant and reliable, and the caregivers always seem to be well-briefed. I also appreciate having the backup support of registered nurses, plus Eldercare’s well-organized approach to communications. Very happy with the experience to date.
