When I was a teenager, most of my peers were excited to learn to drive. But not me. I was terrified. I was scared of getting into an accident, so I avoided learning how to drive for a while.
But now that I’m in my 20s, I have accepted the reality that driving is an essential skill. I asked my friends for their driving school recommendations, picked one, and was surprised to discover that driving isn’t too bad at all!
Months later, I now have my own driving license, all thanks to my wonderful driving instructor. If you’re still nervous about learning how to drive, these driving schools in Toronto have the best, most supportive instructors.

The most memorable and engaging driving lessons
“I passed my G2 driving test the other day from the amazing help of Joseph! From day one, I knew I was going to be in good hands from his bucket loads of energy, which translates into how he teaches. I understood why and how to do things properly, I had extra time to learn the fundamentals and then apply them to real life, and most importantly I felt like I was ready for beyond the test! I gained so much confidence from this experience, from the secret parallel park formula, to merging, to basic driving skills, I’m so grateful for all the lessons along the way! I’m also glad I had a hilarious, patient & direct driving instructor to help me pass on my first try! Thank you to Joseph for the most memorable and engaging driving lessons, my family and I are happy to have met you!”

The school is dedicated to helping learners develop practical driving skills through structured instruction and hands-on training tailored to their experience level.
One of the most distinctive aspects of StickGTA is its specialization in stick shift driving lessons. According to its website, the school provides training designed to help students understand clutch control, gear shifting, hill starts, and other techniques essential to operating a manual vehicle safely and confidently.
The school places a strong emphasis on creating a supportive learning environment for nervous or inexperienced drivers. Its approach focuses on helping students overcome anxiety by progressing at a comfortable pace while developing the skills needed for real-world driving situations.

Young Drivers of Canada

Address: 36 Eglinton Ave W Suite 600, Yonge Eglinton Center
Operating Hours: Monday to Friday—9 am to 5 pm
Contact Number: +14163227000
Young Drivers of Canada is one of the most popular driving schools in the country. This is the school where I took my classes after years of avoiding driving lessons, and I can totally vouch for the quality of their services.
The first great thing about this school is that it has many locations within the GTA. This is convenient because you don’t have to get to their main office in downtown Toronto; just find the one nearest to your area.
The next thing that I love about the school is the classes themselves. They’re not like your typical classes where you just learn the basics and take a test. Instead, the instructors here focus more on enforcing safe driving habits.
They will also teach students important skills like how to safely merge lines, avoid head-on and rear-end collisions, and prevent skidding during winter. Highway driving strategies are also provided here, and as someone who used to be scared of driving on highways, I greatly appreciate that.
The instructors even teach students about fuel-efficient driving techniques! Considering the state of our climate crisis today, this lesson is highly crucial.
The school also makes sure to offer flexible learning options. If you’re busy on a weekday, you can take classes in the evening or the weekends. You can even have them online if you really can’t make it to the physical location.
The instructors are wonderful as well. They’re kind and make sure that the student feels comfortable. Personally, I was nervous because I was older than the usual student driver, but my instructor put me at ease. He also provided me with positive reinforcement during the in-vehicle classes, and admittedly, that boosted my confidence.
Keep in mind, though, that the prices here tend to be on the higher end. The packages range from C$1,600 to C$3,800. They do offer a la carte classes, but they come at C$200 a pop. Most students have told me that the price is worth it, but if you’re on a tight budget, it’s best that you look somewhere else.

Kind and fantastic instructors
“I’m 48 years old, and haven’t driven for about 20 years. Needless to say, I was more than a little nervous getting back in the driver’s side. My instructor, Tenzin, was fantastic at making me feel comfortable. His calm demeanor was exactly what I needed to regain my confidence, and his gentle corrections helped re-enforce my learning. With his help and patience, I was able to successfully pass my G2 on the first try. I could always count on Tenzin to be punctual and ready to go. Thank you Tenzin, I feel like I’m ready to move to highway driving!”

Amazing teacher from start to finish
“My driving instructor, Tenzin, was amazing. When I went to my first lesson with him, I felt very comfortable. He was extremely helpful in teaching me the rules of the road and also taught me many driving skills that the DriveTest center doesn’t even check. Overall, he was an amazing teacher from start to finish, and I would highly recommend him to any of my friends.”

Ultimate Drivers

Address: 1451 Royal York Rd Suite 207, Etobicoke
Operating Hours: Monday to Friday—12 pm to 5 pm
Contact Number: +14162484448
Ultimate Drivers has been serving Etobicoke since 1993, so the fact that it’s well-respected to this day is impressive.
The main reason this driving school is popular among locals is the pricing. They offer a good array of packages, and all of them are reasonably priced.
Sure, there’s a package that costs almost C$900, but that’s an advanced course and an extremely comprehensive one at that. The beginner courses are priced at C$650, while refresher programs are around C$500.
You can even score discounts from time to time (especially around summer)!
The curriculum here is pretty detailed. First, you’ll have classes in the classroom (depending on which package you book, this might take you up to 20 hours), followed by 10 hours’ worth of online home assignments.
Everything culminates with another 10 hours of in-car training. In a span of just a few months, you’ll be ready to pass your driving test and get your license!
The instructors here are amazing. They’re patient and don’t make anyone feel ashamed, especially those who are nervous about driving or people in their 20s or older who have just started learning how to drive.
I also really like that this school is very understanding about students missing classes. They know that people have busy lives, so if a student misses a class, they can reschedule another one. That’s an incredibly thoughtful gesture.
The reviews for this school are overwhelmingly positive, but some former students do have a slight bone to pick concerning the school’s communication.
They’ve shared that sometimes, they would reach out to their instructor via email or phone, but they wouldn’t receive a response for a day or two. This isn’t necessarily a deal-breaker, but it’s still worth noting.

Amazing instructors, great rates
“Not only does Ultimate Drivers have great rates (I did the five in-car lessons with the use of the vehicle for the road test), but clearly the best instructors too. My instructor Max was absolutely fantastic. He was professional but friendly and I was at ease from the very first lesson. He gave great tips and instructions for passing my G road test, which I did on the first go (I went from G1 to G due to previous driving experience). Max’s style of instructing was firm, yet encouraging. Definitely give them a call or go straight to the website to sign up. Registration was easy peasy and you can set up lessons via the app. I would highly recommend Ultimate Drivers to first time drivers or those with previous experience. Max was great!”

Patient instructors
“I highly recommend Armin from Ultimate Drivers Etobicoke to anyone seeking a driving instructor. Her patient approach was invaluable in addressing my numerous questions, and she provided extensive instruction on driving and parking techniques. Thanks to Armin’s excellent guidance, I successfully passed my G2 road test. I am very grateful for her expertise and support.”

AMB Driving School

Address: 358 Danforth Ave Second Floor
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Friday—9 am to 7 pm
- Saturday and Sunday—9 am to 5 pm
Contact Number: +14162229205
AMB Driving School is a popular choice among teenage student drivers. In fact, many of my friends’ and acquaintances’ younger siblings have learned how to drive here.
The main thing that people love about this school is the flexibility it offers. They know that students are their primary clientele, so they ensure that their classes are accessible beyond school hours.
You can take classes in the evening if you want, or if you have a school break, you can book their four-day course. Online classes are also available if the student can’t make it to the physical location.
Additionally, I really like that they offer classes in driving a vehicle with a manual transmission.
Even though high school teenagers are the main students here, the school also caters to senior citizens or new immigrants. I think it’s such a nice gesture to offer classes custom-tailored to these two demographics because I imagine they’re also apprehensive about learning how to drive.
AMB Driving School serves a wide area as well. In addition to the GTA, they have students from Barrie, Brampton, Cambridge, Markham, Milton, Mississauga, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, and Vaughan. Gotta love the wide range!
The prices here are moderately expensive, though, so keep that in mind. The packages range between C$699 and C$1,099, which is pretty pricey. They do have individual packages that are on the cheaper side, but these classes are mostly for people who only need a refresher.

Full of patience
“Waqqas Ahmad AMB Instructor played a vital role for me in Passing my G road test. His full of patience and provided me with knowledge on becoming a confident driver. Would recommend him for anyone looking for a driving instructor.”

Very patient instructors
“I took lessons with Nauman for both my G2 and G tests and passed both on my very first attempts. I was previously an incredibly nervous driver with zero past experience (and started learning in my mid-30s!), but Nauman was very patient and made me feel very comfortable and confident. I truly do not think I could have passed with any other instructor. I am very grateful and highly recommend him as an instructor.”

All Star Driving School

Address: 550 St Clair Ave W Unit # 201,202, York
Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—8:30 am to 9 pm
Contact Number: +14164105050
All Star Driving School serves quite a wide range of cities and towns. The GTA is their primary focus, but they also accept students from other places in Ontario, such as Ajax, Aurora, Brampton, Burlington, Richmond Hill, Woodbridge, and more. Seriously, the list goes on!
Since they have many outlets in the region, it’s easy for a student to book a class and start learning how to drive pronto.
I really like the curriculum here. It’s well-structured and comprehensive. First, the students learn the rules of the road, followed by a breakdown of the different components of a vehicle.
After the foundation, the instructors will then focus on nurturing respect and responsibility when driving. The combination of teaching general facts and forming healthy driving habits is smart, and I think it will help make better drivers.
Many former students have told me that they think that the instructors here are great; to be more specific, “patient” and “kind” are the adjectives they used. They really like that the instructors have a calm teaching style; when the student makes a mistake, they’re not rude.
The one downside I can think of about this school is that it doesn’t have a lot of class options; they only have three packages available.
Also, at first glance, it seems like the prices are relatively affordable here, but then you’ll learn that taxes and the certification fee aren’t included, so the final price is actually much more than you would expect. This can be annoying, especially if you’re on a budget and you didn’t know beforehand.

Patient and friendly
“Muhammad Khan is the best driving instructor I have ever met. He is very patient, friendly, and explains everything clearly, which made me feel comfortable and confident while driving. He always stayed calm, even when I made mistakes, and helped me improve step by step. Thanks to his great teaching, I passed my driving test. I highly recommend Muhammad Khan to anyone who wants to learn driving in a safe and easy way.”

Globe Driving Academy

Address: 1219 St Clair Ave W Suite G1
Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—9 am to 9 pm
Contact Number: +16473518225
Compared to the other schools in this list, Globe Driving Academy is relatively newer (it was established in 2012), but it’s still a popular choice among many Toronto locals.
When asked what they like the most about this school, former students told me that it’s the flexibility. The school offers online classes that cover all the basics, such as traffic rules and the different parts of a vehicle. When you’re ready, you can take the in-car training anytime.
The in-car training sessions are pretty good, too, according to former students. The instructors do their best to put the students at ease, and they always start with a quick refresher on traffic rules before the student officially starts driving.
The instructor keeps a calm attitude, even when a student makes a mistake, and the former students told me that they appreciated that gesture.
I’ve heard that this school has some classes tailored for senior drivers as well, and I appreciate it. These senior-friendly courses can help them get over their anxiety about driving.
The prices here can be pretty hefty. The rates being advertised are rarely what you end up paying because there are other fees you have to pay as well. In fact, you’ll have to pay at least C$100 more than the advertised price! I wish they were more transparent about this.
