Opening of St. Lawrence Market’s North Building
When: April 5, 2025
Where: 92 Front Street
As someone who’s called Toronto home for years, I’ve always felt that St. Lawrence Market is more than just a place to shop. It’s the heartbeat of our city. Packed with unique shops, a wide variety of goods, and an energetic vibe, it’s one of those spots that truly captures what our city is all about.
For the past few years, though, its Farmers’ Market has been operating out of a temporary spot at 125 The Esplanade. While it worked for the time being, I think we can all agree that it’s time for the market to return to its proper home.
That time has finally arrived. The long-awaited north building is finally opening its doors this April, and I couldn’t be more excited to check it out.

First off, here’s the lowdown. The new North Market building is located right across from the South Market. It’s not just a new coat of paint; it’s a whole new setup.
We’re talking about a five-storey, 228,000-square-foot space that’s got a little bit of everything. On the main floor, the Market Hall will host our beloved Farmers’ Market and antiques market, so your Saturday morning routine just got an upgrade.
Despite all the changes, the market is staying true to its roots. It’s still the same St. Lawrence Market we know and love, now with more room to explore and a fresh, modern look.
And it’s not just markets this time around. The upper floors will house courtrooms and admin spaces, which is kinda cool if you ask me. It’s nice to find a space that combines shopping with civic use, making this an exciting addition to the city.
Plus, they’ve thought of us drivers this time around since there are four levels of underground parking with space for 250 cars. No more driving in endless circles trying to find a spot (we’ve all been there).

What really makes me happy is how this place was designed with sustainability in mind. It’s got a green roof, under-floor air distribution, and even heated floors. Talk about fancy.
It’s also worth pointing out that this stunning five-storey atrium will have some nifty elements, like modern lighting and LED features. I can already picture myself strolling through it, soaking in the vibe of this new space.
Now, I won’t lie—the project wasn’t exactly a smooth ride. It started way back in July 2019 with a budget of $91 million, but costs climbed to around $128 million. That’s a lot, and I’m looking forward to us Torontonians making the most out of every penny.
