We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Staying fit and active through exercise and playing basketball is a huge part of my life. However, I’ve had my fair share of struggles with injuries and fatigue. It can be incredibly frustrating to feel your body holding you back from what you love to do.

Thankfully, I found help from a sports doctor. They guided me to understand why these issues were happening and taught me ways to recover and prevent further injuries.

I know my challenges aren’t unique and they can happen to anyone, so I compiled a list of the best sports doctors in Toronto. I hope your journey to an active lifestyle goes well!

How much does a visit to a sports doctor cost in Toronto?

An initial assessment and treatment from a sports doctor in Toronto usually costs $130. However, your price can vary depending on the clinic and the services provided.

How We Chose

Experience and qualifications – We chose board-certified sports doctors with more than three years of experience in the industry.
Services offered – We also prefer those who provide a wide range of services, including orthopedic surgeries, sports physiotherapy, and sports podiatry.
Accessibility – We assessed whether their clinics are near major roads and public transit stations. We also looked at whether they see patients on most days of the week.
Professionalism – We considered whether these sports doctors are always respectful to their patients and on time for their appointments. We also evaluated whether they respond to enquiries quickly.
Price fairness – We checked whether their prices are fair considering their experience, specializations, facilities, and availability.

This is by far the best sports clinic I have been to

“This is by far the best sports clinic I have been to. Dr. Darrin Germann is very professional and friendly. He cares about his patients and is always willing to help. I have been with him for a few months and got better from a back injury. I would highly recommend him to anyone!”

“Dr. Joseph Menna is amazing! I had struggled with neck pain for months. With one injection it went away completely. I still have to be careful with my neck but those injections are my go to now!”

Rebalance Sports Medicine is a renowned sports clinic started in 2011 by Alishah Merchant. It has built quite a reputation for having a comprehensive range of services aimed at improving both physical and mental well-being.

That includes services like physiotherapy, chiropractic care, massage therapy, acupuncture, and Pilates. What’s interesting is that they have resident psychotherapists like Drs. Lourenco and Prashad, who can provide mental wellness therapies like cognitive behavioural therapy and somatic experiencing.

Moreover, their team can also perform ergonomic assessments to help businesses and freelancers improve their workplace setups. This service is available virtually, so there’s no need to visit their clinic to avail of this!

However, please take note that they charge slightly above average for their services. It’s also a bit disappointing that they sometimes forget to respond to enquiries.

Pros

  • 13 years of experience
  • 2 locations in Toronto
  • Offers mental health programs
  • Can perform virtual ergonomic assessments

Cons

  • Slightly above-average prices

Was able to solve my problem once and for all

“The team at Rebalance Sports Medicine DT is awesome. When I started playing baseball again in 2020, my left shoulder gave me a lot of trouble, so a friend of mine recommended that I see Dr. Chad Carter. After treating the area for a few months, he was able to solve my problem once and for all. I also recently had a visit with Christina K. for a great Stretching Session (FST).”

Sped up my injury recovery in big leaps and bounds

“I went to see Dr. Wong today with a burning pain in my elbow and a limp due to a left knee injury. After her assessment, needling and soft tissue treatments, my elbow pain went from an 8 to a 2 and I actually was able to walk at a decent pace back home. It sounds a little miraculous, but it sped up my injury recovery in big leaps and bounds. Dr. Wong is now a huge part of my athletic future as I head into my 60’s.”

My go-to clinic for any sports-related injuries is Athlete’s Care Sports Medicine Centre. They have 27 years of experience and have 23 easily accessible locations across the GTA.

They offer a wide range of services, like massage therapy, chiropractic treatments, and Pilates rehab. These services are performed by their experienced team of sports doctors like Drs. Kevin Hsu and Alice Kam.

I’m particularly a fan of their Physio at Home service, which lets me enjoy physiotherapy treatments right in the comfort of my home.

I’ve also tried their Blood Flow Restriction Training, which is a fantastic way to boost strength and endurance without using heavy weights. The results were impressive! The training kept me fit and helped me stay in shape even during my injury recovery period.

The only downside is the long wait times; sometimes I have to wait more than a week for an appointment.

Another veteran provider of sports medicine services in Toronto is the Sports & Exercise Medicine Institute, also known as SEMI. It was founded in 1997 by Dr. Douglas Stoddard, a sports doctor with almost three decades of experience.

Some of their most popular services include physiotherapy, massage therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic care, and sports psychology. Beyond those, they also provide specialized treatments like prolotherapy, which helps with tendon and joint pain by stimulating the body’s healing process.

It’s also quite interesting that they have a dedicated osteoarthritis clinic that focuses on non-surgical treatments to manage pain and improve joint function. If you feel any sudden swelling or pain in your joints, check them out!

Sadly, I heard from some of their former patients that their sports doctors sometimes arrive late to their appointments.

Pros

  • 27 years of experience
  • Has an osteoarthritis clinic
  • Offers prolotherapy treatments
  • No physician’s referral required

Cons

  • Unpunctual staff
  • Above-average prices

I have no hesitation in recommending SEMI

“I’ve been returning to SEMI for a range of injuries and pains for

more than 15 years and just completed a few weeks of treatment for debilitating pain in my upper and lower back, shoulders and neck. It was preventing me from being active and getting restful sleep. This time I was treated by Tony H who had me pain free and back to my normal active self in less than 4 weeks. Professional, accommodating and experts in sports related injuries and more, I have no hesitation in recommending SEMI and will continue going back if needed.”

Have always received the best care

“I have used the services at SEMI several times over the years to help deal with different exercise-related issues and have always received the best care. Mostly recently I had physiotherapy with Adam and I’m very happy to say I was able to complete the Toronto Half Marathon in the spring, pain-free and injury-free, and I continue to run regularly. I am very grateful to have had SEMI help me to continue to live a very active life.”

My first visit was a game changer!

“My first visit was a game changer! I showed up in pain with a swollen ankle and walked out a different person without pain, a cool tape job and better informed with exercises and activities to support my recovery. Rodrigo, thank you for taking the time to understand what happened, assess my gait, condition, and for creating a recovery plan that worked!”
