The Best Croissants in Toronto That Gave Me a Rush of Dough-Pamine!

croissants-in-toronto

I may sound like a basic person, but I’m obsessed with croissants. They’re so delightfully buttery and flaky, and you can pair them with so many different spreads and toppings!

That’s why I find the time to sneak a croissant into my day. Fortunately, there are many bakeries in Toronto that can satisfy my craving.

If you’re also craving them too, these are the best spots to get them warm!

Geste Croissanterie and Bistro

From: geste_croissanterie

Address: 506 Queen St W

Operating Hours

  • Monday and Tuesday—8 am to 4 pm
  • Wednesday and Sunday—8 am to 6 pm
  • Thursday and Saturday—8 am to 8 pm

Contact Number: +14165381710

Website

Geste Croissanterie and Bistro started from humble beginnings, but now it’s become a beloved spot among locals. This place is led by chefs who are classically trained in France, so you can expect to find traditional French pastries and dishes here.

I usually get the classic butter croissant, but sometimes I like to switch things up by getting the almond croissant or pain au chocolat. No matter which I choose, the croissant is perfectly soft and buttery, and I love that the other variations aren’t too sweet.

Pro Tip:

During rush hour, expect a long line of people. But don’t worry too much because the line moves fast.

Le Beau Croissanterie

– From: lebeaulab

Address: 665 Dundas St E

Operating Hours: Wednesday to Sunday—9 am to 5 pm

Website

Owned by a chef who was trained in Paris and worked in renowned Parisian patisseries, Le Beau Croissanterie boasts traditional French pastries. The interior is also reminiscent of bakeries in Paris, so you’ll feel transported every time you’re here!

The croissants are available during breakfast, and there’s a good variety. I love the raspberry croissant because it’s both sweet and tart. If I’m feeling indulgent, I’ll get the dulce de leche croissant, which is so sugary and creamy.

Pro Tip:

Give a fellow croissant lover a gift card from this bakery!

Kream Dessert

From: kream_toronto

Address: 526 Yonge St

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—10 am to 8:30 pm

Kream Dessert caught my attention the first time because its croissants aren’t your typical shape. They’re cube-shaped (they’re called bombs here)! I also heard that they’re Korean-inspired, which piqued my interest even more.

My ultimate recommendation is the Creme Brulee Bomb, which has a rich creamy custard filling and a crunchy layer of caramelized sugar on top. Every bite sends me to sugary heaven, so I always get it when I’m stressed and need cheering up.

Pro Tip:

Pair your croissant with the Kream Spanner, which is the shop’s signature drink. It’s their interpretation of the Viennese drink Einspänner, which is essentially coffee with whipped cream.

TASSO

From: tassobaking

Address: 540 Parliament St

Website

Located in Cabbagetown, TASSO is a fascinating bakery because it doesn’t have operating hours. Instead, this small bakery operates in a “pop-up” style, which means they only announce bakes and details on when to order them on the website.

So far, what I love ordering here is the marzipan croissant, which is nutty and sweet. If you prefer something savory, I recommend the smoked ham and aged cheddar croissant because it’s salty and sharp.

Pro Tip:

If you have any dietary restrictions, you can let them know by sending an email to [email protected]

Bake Code Croissanterie

From: bakecodecroissanterie

Address: 626 Yonge St

Operating Hours

  • Sunday to Thursday—11 am to 10 pm
  • Friday and Saturday—11 am to 11 pm

Contact Number: +16473436888

Website

What I love about Bake Code Patisserie is that the croissants here always look like works of art. Plus, they always have fascinating flavors, so I’m always excited to try something new.

My favorite flavor so far is the strawberries and cream croissant, which is sweet and tangy at the same time. Another one that I eventually learned to like is the salted egg croissant. The butty flavors of the croissant pair well with the egg’s saltiness!

Pro Tip:

You can create your own croissant box if you order online.

Blackbird Baking Co.

From: bbirdco

Address: 172 Baldwin St, Kensington Sound

Operating Hours

  • Monday to Saturday—9 am to 6 pm
  • Sunday—10 am to 5 pm

Contact Number: +14165462280

Website

Blackbird Baking Co. is best known for its sourdough, and though that one is a must-try, the croissant is the main highlight for me. The bakers use high-fat butter and a secret blend of fancy flours, so the end product is so perfect it looks straight from a cartoon!

Of course, the croissant tastes as good as it looks. The best one for me is the almond croissant. I like that it has a generous cream filling and isn’t overly sweet. The nuts also add a nice texture.

Pro Tips:

Blackbird works with several grocers and retailers in the city, so you can buy their products without going to the storefront. I recommend checking out Deal Coffee and City Cottage Market.

Some of the products are only available on certain days, so I recommend checking the menu online before your visit.

Absolute Bakery and Cafe

From: cabbagetownbia

Address: 589 Parliament St

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—7 am to 9 pm

Contact Number: +14169292700

Website

Absolute Bakery and Cafe is a family-run business, which is why its atmosphere is very warm and cozy. This place is also a haven for dessert lovers because it’s full of French-style cakes, pastries, and other baked goods.

Get the classic chocolate croissant. It’s drizzled with lots of chocolate sauce, so every bite is indulgent. Another choice that’s just as indulgent is the cinnamon roll croissant, which is topped with a sticky, sugary glaze. Yum!

Pro Tip:

I recommend taking a seat outside while eating your pastry. That way, you can also enjoy the relaxing view of the neighborhood.

Patisserie 27

From: melaniecarmo

Address: 401 Jane St

Operating Hours: Wednesday to Sunday—8 am to 2 pm

Contact Number: +14167622103

Website

Patisserie 27 is a lovely, humble bakery on Jane Street that serves all sorts of delicious pastries. I can recommend several treats here, but the one I keep raving about is the croissant.

Their croissant is so pillowy, and I love dunking pieces of it into my coffee. My favorite variation is the chocolate banana croissant. I love how the chocolate oozes out once you bite into the pastry!

Pro Tip:

Saturday and Sunday are the bakery’s busiest days. To avoid getting stuck in a line, place your order by phone a few days ahead of time.

Fleur du Jour

– From: flowerofthedaypastry

Address: 603 St Clair Ave W

Operating Hours

  • Sunday to Thursday—8:30 am to 4:30 pm
  • Friday and Saturday—8:30 am to 6 pm

Contact Number: +14166522562

Website

I only heard about Fleur du Jour when my friend recommended it to me, and now that I’ve tried it, I’m a returning patron. Offering a wide variety of viennoiseries and other French-style pastries, this homey shop is a perfect spot for breakfast or even brunch.

For croissants, I have to say my favorite is the Brietto, which is a croissant with brie and prosciutto. Instead of sweet, this one is salty and savory. In particular, I love the cheese because it forms a crispy top layer that’s so satisfying to bite into.

Pro Tip:

Their pastries tend to sell out fast. I recommend coming here as soon as the doors open.

Aux Merveilleux de Fred

From: camerafirst

Address: 224 Queen St W

Operating Hours

  • Monday to Friday—8 am to 7:30 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday—8:30 am to 7:30 pm

Contact Number: +16478125982

Website

Aux Merveilleux de Fred is a well-known bakery all over the world, so you can expect nothing but greatness here. Though merveilleux (a small cake made of two meringues and whipped cream) is the specialty, this place still offers other quality pastries, including croissants.

The croissant here has the perfect golden and crispy exterior, and then when you bite into it, you’re met with pillowy softness! It tastes so good on its own—buttery and slightly sweet—but you can spread a layer of jam or other toppings to make it even tastier.

Pro Tip:

This shop is often busy, so prepare to wait in line for some time. Alternatively, you can come here even before the shop opens so you don’t have to queue.

Goûter

From: gouterbyra

Address: 3507 Bathurst St, North York

Operating Hours

  • Wednesday to Saturday—8 am to 3:30 pm
  • Sunday—9 am to 1 pm

Contact Number: +16473513507

Website

What I love about Goûter is that there’s always a lineup of flavors for the croissant. I love the classic variant with all my heart, but sometimes I want to see bakers put their own twist on this versatile pastry.

Usually, my go-to order here is the Nutella croissant because it’s just so decadent. If I’m in the mood for something savory, I would get the ham and cheese croissant, which has the right balance of salty and savory.

Sometimes there are even special edition croissants made with seasonal ingredients or made for occasions like Halloween! I’m always excited to try these.

Pro Tips:

You can book this bakery for a wedding or any other special event.

This bakery also has stalls at farmers’ markets throughout GTA. Check this page to see which markets they attend!

Bonjour Brioche

From: bonjour_brioche

Address: 812 Queen St E

Operating Hours

  • Wednesday—8 am to 2 pm
  • Thursday to Sunday—8 am to 3 pm

Contact Number: +14164061250

Website

I usually come to Bonjour Brioche for breakfast or brunch, but sometimes I also come here during mid-morning breaks just to order a pastry. I’ve tried most of the pastries they’re offering, and so far, the croissant stands out as the best.

There’s a good variety of flavors here, and my favorite is the Lemon Twist Croissant. This one tastes tart and buttery—a flavor combo made in heaven!

The pain au Suisse is also another great option; it’s savory and cheesy at the same time.

Pro Tip:

Planning a special event soon? You can book this bakery as your caterer!

Bisou Toronto

From: bisou.to

Address: 350 Berkeley St

Operating Hours

  • Tuesday to Thursday, Sunday—8:30 am to 3:30 pm
  • Friday—8:30 am to 8 pm
  • Saturday—8:30 am to 5 pm

Contact Number: +14379717150

Website

Another great spot for breakfast or brunch is Bisou Toronto. My favorite thing to get here is the croissant végé, which is filled with mozzarella cheese, pesto, tomato sauce, and rutabaga. It’s salty and savory, with notes of tangy and earthy.

I also recommend getting the ham and cheese croissant. It’s made with Virginia ham and Swiss cheese, and then it’s slathered with bechamel. As a result, it tastes sharp and creamy at the same time.

Pro Tips:

There are always fun events at Bisou. For example, Friday night is Tapas Night, aka the night when you can enjoy finger foods at a discounted price! You can book their catering services for your special event.

L’Avenue Boulangerie

From: ladores.foodies

Address: 1850 Avenue Rd, North York

Operating Hours

  • Monday to Friday—7:30 am to 6 pm

Website

L’Avenue Boulangerie is all about finding excellence in simplicity, so the whole shop gives off a rustic feel, almost as if you’re in the French countryside. This atmosphere is perfect when you just want a slow start to your day as you’re eating your pastry.

They have several flavors available for croissants. I’m personally a big fan of chocolate blueberry because the sweet-tart flavor combination is simply divine. The pistachio croissant is also another recommendation; that one is much nuttier.

Pro Tip:

If you have any allergies or dietary restrictions, you can let the bakery know beforehand via phone or email ([email protected]).

Pâtisserie La Cigogne

From: patisserielacigogne

Address: 1419 Danforth Ave

Operating Hours

  • Monday to Thursday—7:30 am to 7 pm
  • Friday—7:30 am to 8 pm
  • Saturday—8 am to 8 pm
  • Sunday—8 am to 7 pm

Contact Number: +14164662345

Website

I love stopping by Pâtisserie La Cigogne because the pastries on display are so gorgeous. Some even look like sculptures! I feel bad for having to eat them.

For croissants, I tend to get the almond variation because it has a generous heaping of almonds on top, so every bite is extra nutty.

I also love the chocolate croissant. It’s such a classic, and I can’t get enough of how light and subtly sweet it is!

Pro Tips:

This bakery has exclusive products for special occasions like Christmas and other holidays.

You can request cakes and other pastries for special events. Send an email to [email protected] for more information.

Nord Lyon

From: nord_lyon

Address: 665 Queen St W

Operating Hours: Tuesday to Sunday—7 am to 11 pm

Contact Number: +14167926661

Website

Located in the heart of Toronto, Nord Lyon makes you feel like you’re in a fancy cafe in France. This place also boasts beautiful pastries, so you have to eat with your eyes first every time.

I love that the croque monsieur here is made with croissants, so the sandwich is now a buttery and flaky delight with a savory explosion from the turkey ham, gooey cheese, and creamy bechamel sauce.

I also recommend getting Nord Lyon’s signature croissants. These croissants are filled with strawberry jam and tangy lemon creme, so every bite is a perfect balance of fruity sweetness and refreshing tartness.

Pro Tip:

This bakery has an all-you-can-eat buffet that allows you to consume as many croissants as you want. It’s only available during the weekend, from 9 am to 2:30 pm.

Hadrien Patisserie

From: hadrien_patisserie

Address: 709 The Queensway

Operating Hours: Tuesday to Sunday—8 am to 5 pm

Contact Number: +14162517177

Website

Hadrien Patisserie is owned and operated by a pastry chef who used to work in high-end restaurants and patisseries in Paris. So I wasn’t surprised to discover that the pastries, especially the croissants, always look so perfect.

The almond croissant is the bestseller here, and it’s also one I recommend the most. It’s super light and fluffy, with the nuts adding a crunchy texture. Even with the generous sprinkling of powdered sugar on top, the croissant isn’t too sweet, which I appreciate.

Pro Tip:

You can book this bakery’s catering services for your special event.
