Whoever invented the burrito is my hero because this dish is my ultimate favourite meal. It’s just so versatile, you know? You can fill it with whatever you want, and the result is always delicious and satisfying.
It’s also fast to prepare and relatively easy to eat (I mean, I can eat it while walking if I really try).
For a quick bite, I head to my favourite burrito spots in Toronto. Check them out!
Wilbur Mexicana
– From: tastetoronto
Address: 552 King St W, Fashion House
Operating Hours:
- Monday—11:30 am to 2 pm, 5 to 9:30 pm
- Tuesday to Thursday, Sunday—11:30 am to 9:30 pm
- Friday and Saturday—11:30 am to 10 pm
Contact Number: +14167921878
Wilbur Mexicana is one of my favourite Mexican restaurants in Toronto, and though I love everything I’ve ever eaten here, my ultimate favourite is, of course, their burrito.
To be more specific, I’m always dreaming about their Cali Burrito. This one is massive, and it’s bursting with all the good stuff: chicken (or your choice of protein), rice, sweet potatoes, guacamole, jack and oaxaca cheese, salsa suave, and sour cream.
Every bite is a symphony of flavours: savoury, tangy, acidic, and sweet.

Burrito Bandidos
– From: burritobandidos
Address: 1614 Queen St E
Operating Hours:
- Monday and Tuesday—11 am to 10:30 pm
- Wednesday to Friday—11 am to 11 pm
- Saturday—12 pm to 11 pm
- Sunday—12 pm to 10 pm
Contact Number: +14166918080
Burrito Bandidos lives and breathes burritos, and so far, they’ve yet to disappoint me. The quality here is top-notch, and the staff doesn’t skimp on the ingredients either, so the burritos come out fat and near to bursting, which is a good sign to me.
The mango chicken burrito has my heart. The mixture of mango and chicken results in this wonderful sweet and savoury combination, which I can’t get enough of. Sometimes, I order a side of hot habanero sauce because I want a not-so-subtle kick of spice.

Fat Bastard Burrito Co.
– From: bastardburrito
Address: 187 College St
Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—11 am to 11 pm
Contact Number: +16473485551
The main reason I love Fat Bastard Burrito Co. is that I can be creative with my burrito. I can choose whatever filling I want, and since there are many options, I can come up with a ton of possible combinations.
I usually choose the huge burrito because I love burritos fat, and as for the filling, my go-to is usually the tequila lime breaded chicken because it has that nice zing of tanginess.
This filling pairs really well with the guacamole and salsa that the burrito comes with, and if I want to ramp up the spice level, I’ll just plop a generous dollop of the restaurant’s fiery hot sauce.
Pro Tip: This restaurant offers catering services for special events. You can choose between a burrito box or a build-your-own-taco/bowl bar.
Playa Cabana
– From: playacabana
Address: 111 Dupont St
Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—12 pm to 10 pm
Contact Number: +14169293911
Playa Cabana first caught my attention because of its cozy and charmingly rustic vibe, but undoubtedly, it’s the food that made me a returning patron.
I really like all the burrito options, but if I have to pick an absolute favourite, it’ll have to be the Mar y Tierra Burrito. This is essentially a surf-and-turf dish in burrito form because it combines steak and shrimp.
Savoury and slightly sweet are the primary flavours, but this burrito also tastes cheesy, tangy, and refreshing, thanks to all the other toppings (guacamole, pico de gallo, salsa verde, and more).
Pro Tip: It’s hard to find parking here, so I recommend using public transportation to reach this spot instead.
Gus Tacos
– From: gustacos.to
Address: 225 Augusta Ave
Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—11 am to 9 pm
Contact Number: +14169778226
Gus Tacos has been recommended by many trusted news organizations like the Toronto Star and Toronto Life, so I was intrigued enough to check it out. True enough, this place serves amazing burritos, and I’ve been back multiple times now in a span of just a few months.
Their burrito is pretty simple, but it hits just right. You just have to choose your protein, and then they’ll pile up beans, cheese, guacamole, and lettuce. The meat tastes savoury and rich, and the cheese adds a nice salty balance. There’s also a hint of smokiness, thanks to the chipotle mayo.

Bolet’s Burrito
– From: boletsburrito.ca
Address: 134 Lower Sherbourne St
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Friday—11 am to 9 pm
- Saturday—12 pm to 7 pm
Contact Number: +14163645811
Bolet’s Burrito is an underrated family-owned shop that I only discovered recently. Even though that’s the case, I’ve made it my mission to spread the word because they deserve more hype!
The Thai chicken burrito is my favourite here. The chicken pieces are breaded and deep-fried, so they’re extremely crispy. This burrito also comes with chilli Thai sauce that definitely packs quite the punch.
Seriously, if you have low spice tolerance, be forewarned; dumping all the sauce in one go will make you feel like you’re eating lava!

barBURRITO

- Wednesday and Thursday—11 am to 1 am
- Sunday—11 am to 10 pm

Normally, I’m not the biggest fan of big-name restaurant chains, but barBURRITO has proven that there can be exceptions to my rule. This super popular burrito shop in Canada has always impressed me with their food, so naturally, it’s made it into my list.
I love choosing the jerk chicken for my burrito because the earthy, smoky, and spicy flavours excite my taste buds. The rest of the toppings are the usual for me: rice, cheese, salsa, and pickled jalapeños. As for the sauce, I’m a big fan of the lime crema because its tanginess ties everything together.

Enchilados Taquería
– From: enchilados_taqueria
Address: 1993 Keele St, York
Operating Hours:
- Tuesday to Saturday—12:30 pm to 9:30 pm
- Sunday—2 pm to 9 pm
Contact Number: +16472453663
Located in York, Enchilados Taquería is best known for their tacos, but for me, their burritos are miles better (I still love their tacos, though!). Not only are they delicious, but they’re also big enough that I can only eat half and still be satisfied and full for the rest of the day.
The adobo pork burrito is my current obsession. It’s smoky and savoury, and the meat is juicy. This burrito is pretty spicy, too, so be warned. Personally, I don’t think the spice level is over the roof, but one of my friends disagrees with me, so just keep that in mind.
Pro Tip: There’s limited seating here, so I recommend driving to this shop so that you can still eat your burrito fresh and hot in your car.
Comal y Canela
– From: comalycanela
Address: 1692B Jane St, Cash Pond, York
Operating Hours:
- Sunday to Thursday—12 pm to 10 pm
- Friday and Saturday—12 pm to 12 am
Contact Number: +16476894694
Another great spot in York that serves fantastic burritos is Comal y Canela. Beyond the food, this restaurant has a special place in my heart because it’s just so down-to-earth and charming. I mean, they have adorable Mexican hats as decorations!
Their burritos are so big I feel like they’re fit to feed a giant. Seriously, each one weighs 1.5 pounds! I can never finish my order in one sitting.
My favourite thing to get is the Don Sirloin. It has slices of sirloin steak, which are tender and savoury, and its other toppings include refried beans, rice, avocado, and caramelized onions. It even has a cheese crust, which adds a nice crunch to every bite.
Pro Tip: This restaurant gets fully booked fast. I recommend booking a reservation ahead of time. If you don’t, you end up in a long waiting queue.
La Carnita and Sweet Jesus
– From: la_carnita
Address: 106 John St
Operating Hours:
- Sunday to Wednesday—12 pm to 11 pm
- Thursday to Saturday—12 pm to 12 am
Contact Number: +16473481166
A friend recommended La Carnita and Sweet Jesus to me, and I was struck at first by its modern, edgy interior design. The menu has also impressed me because their burrito flavours are bold and creative.
I recommend getting the chorizo Mexicano burrito. This one is made with chorizo sausages, so the primary flavours are smoky and savoury. This burrito also comes with Mexican crema, fresh salsa, and chipotle mayo, which add a tanginess that pairs well with the chorizo’s savoriness.
Pro Tip: This place is pretty popular, so I suggest you book your spot ahead of time.
The Burrito Bros
– From: theburritobros.ca
Address: 320 Richmond St E #107
Operating Hours:

- Thursday and Friday—10:30 am to 2 am
- Saturday—11 am to 2 am
- Sunday—12 pm to 11 pm
Contact Number: +14163686013
I first heard about The Burrito Bros when I was mindlessly browsing Restaurant Guru and discovered that this restaurant is pretty well-liked. Curious, I decided to check this out, and to my delight, I ended up liking this place as well.
They have the classic burrito flavours here, but the ones I really like are those that have interesting combinations. The fish and chips burrito is a perfect example; somehow, the idea of a crunchy fish and salty fries inside a burrito wrap works well.
This burrito is also bursting with sweet, spicy, and tangy flavours because it comes with sweet corn, guacamole, and spicy jalapeño. If you want even more spice, feel free to add more spoonfuls of the hot sauce.

Fresh Burrito

Operating Hours:
- Monday to Friday—11 am to 12 am
- Saturday and Sunday—12 pm to 12 am
Contact Number: +14377477765
Fresh Burrito has been a go-to burrito shop of mine since I was a teenager. The fact that it’s managed to stay on my list is just proof that they’re still pumping out tasty and high-quality burritos.
I keep coming back to the pulled pork burrito. The pork has been slow-cooked for several hours, so it comes out so tender it basically melts. The meat is also paired with a Baja chipotle sauce that makes the burrito extra smoky and spicy.

Grillies
– From: grillies
Address: 149 Dundas St E
Operating Hours: Open 24 hours
Contact Number: +14166031232
Grillies is open 24/7, which is why it’s become one of my favourite places to go for a late-night snack. Sure, it’s not a great idea to eat such a filling treat like a burrito at 2 am, but hey, this is my life, I make the rules!
One thing I like about this restaurant is that I can build my own burrito. So far, I really like the combination of grilled chicken, shredded mozzarella, and their barbeque sauce. Smoky is the main flavour I can taste, but there’s also a hint of sweetness from the sauce that I like.
Pro Tip: This restaurant has a Daily Burrito promo that lets you buy a burrito for a discounted price. You do have to stick to the protein of the day, but it’s still a steal. You can even score discounts on any side dishes!
Burrito Boyz

- Friday—11 am to 3 am
- Saturday—11:30 am to 3 am
- Sunday—11:30 am to 2 am
Contact Number: +16473482699
Burrito Boyz is another spot that I loved to frequent when I was younger, so I have to admit that my love for it is a bit biased. That said, I’ve brought some of my adult friends here, and they’ve come to really love this place, too, so that’s something, I guess.
The steak burrito is my favourite. It’s absolutely loaded with a ton of meat and a good amount of rice, beans, tomatoes, and other vegetables, so every bite is a clash of savoury, tangy, and peppery flavours.
I also really like that they toast their burritos here because it gives the wrap a slight crunch.

Rancho Relaxo To Go
– From: ranchotogo
Address: 735 Kipling Ave
Operating Hours: Monday to Saturday—11 am to 9 pm
Contact Number: +14162530175
I only checked out Rancho Relaxo To Go on a whim one day, and after having tried one of their burritos, I couldn’t believe I hadn’t been here sooner. This place deserves more love!
The rancho chicken burrito is to die for. It’s tangy, salty, and savoury at the same time, and if you want a stronger kick of flavours, I recommend adding pico de gallo, pickled onions, and jalapeños to your burrito.
For the sauce, the mango marmalade one is a delightful surprise. It’s sweet and fruity, and somehow, it works well when paired with a mostly savoury burrito.
Pro Tip: You can book one of the restaurant’s food trucks for a special event.
Tacos Moras
– From: bwit.bunz
Address: 523 Danforth Ave
Operating Hours:
- Sunday to Thursday—11 am to 10 pm
- Friday and Saturday—11 am to 11 pm
Contact Number: +14164669888
Tacos Moras is a humble fast-food joint on Danforth Avenue that definitely caught me by surprise. The first time I came here, I had low expectations of their burritos, but when I took a bite, I realized just how wrong I was.
Their burrito is relatively cheap, and still, it’s pretty sizable. It’s jam-packed with beans, lettuce, onions, cilantro, and your choice of protein. For the protein, I recommend the short ribs because they’re so rich and savoury.
They have interesting protein options here, too. For example, they offer cactus! I have no idea what that would taste like in a burrito, but now, I’m curious. I’ll definitely try this next time.
