I love my dogs, and like most pet owners, when they start acting strangely, I get nervous.
That’s why I’m so thankful to the veterinarians in the city who have helped me ease my worries or figure out what’s wrong with my furbabies. I don’t know where I or my dogs would be without them.

Beaches Animal Hospital

Address: 2304 Queen St E
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Friday—8 am to 8 pm
- Saturday and Sunday—9 am to 6 pm
Contact Number: +14166904040
Beaches Animal Hospital is a trusted animal hospital in The Beaches neighbourhood, and it’s hard not to see why. Firstly, they’re open every day, making them accessible, and secondly, they offer a wide array of services.
Annual diagnostics, spaying and neutering, and pet vaccinations are their most popular services, but they can also do laboratory services, surgery, dentistry, nutrition, and hospitalization. You can even get your furbaby microchipped here.
Though they’re not open 24/7, they can handle after-hours pet emergencies. This is because the hospital is well-connected with the Veterinary Emergency Clinic and the Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital.
What if you’re not experiencing an emergency, but you’d like to consult without having to go to the clinic itself? Don’t worry because this hospital offers telemedicine now!
They also accept pet insurance from providers like Pet Care, Pet Plan, and Trupanion.
That said, I’ve heard some complaints about the staff here. One former client said that she brought her two pups here, but the vet in training who served her was rude. This discouraged the client from ever coming back.

Quick and quality service
“Beaches Animal Hospital is great! My cat was injured and it turns out she needed stitches. They saw me quickly, handled her so well, did a great job of stitching her up, checked in on her the day after, responded to my email questions I sent afterwards on how keep her from licking (she refused the cone), and were prompt in keeping the appointment to remove the stitches – we were in and out. Thank you!”

Attentive doctors
“I’ve been taking our pups here for 14 years and I have always been welcomed with kindness and sincere caring. They are always attentive to you and your pet the second you set foot in the door. Always ensuring you and your pet are comfortable and cared for. Twice I’ve had dogs that had to undergo surgery and they kindly let me sit with my dogs when they’re recovering to reduce their anxiety. So thoughtful! Great team at this clinic!”

Wellesley Animal Hospital

Address: 535 Yonge St
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Friday—8 am to 8 pm
- Saturday—9 am to 4 pm
Contact Number: +14169661830
If you live in downtown Toronto, one animal hospital that you can trust is Wellesley Animal Hospital. This hospital is conveniently located, with metro stations and bus stops nearby, so you won’t have a hard time coming here via public transportation.
The first great thing about this hospital is the impressive lineup of services. From diagnostics and parasite control and prevention to weight management and surgeries, they have it all. They also have a fully stocked pharmacy, offering more convenience.
Another thing that people like about this hospital is the special promotions. For example, they have a Pet Health Club, a healthcare membership that lets you save on the cost of your pet’s routine treatments.
They also have a Senior Wellness Package, which offers a nose-to-tail physical exam for your senior pets.
Even though this hospital isn’t open 24/7, they can still handle after-hours emergencies because they have several partner clinics, such as the Toronto Animal Health Partners Emergency and Specialty Hospital and the Central Toronto Veterinary Referral Clinic.
One downside to this hospital, though, is the lack of flexibility. One client shared that she and her cat were late because of an issue, and the staff refused to see them. She also complained that some of the staff members were dismissive and rude.

Goes above and beyond
“The staff at Wellesley Animal Hospital goes above and beyond to help your pet feel comfortable at the visit and takes steps to make certain your pet is set up for success between visits. They helped my senior pet recently and I couldn’t be more grateful for their attentive exam, compassionate approach and guidance before, during and after the visit.”

Warm and welcoming staff
“I was in a pinch to get my dog in for an appointment as my regular vet didn’t have availability for a week. A friend recommended Wellesley Animal Hospital to me saying how much she loved how they cared for her dog and I couldn’t agree more. They were so warm and welcoming when I walked in and their waiting area had treats waiting for your furry friend. I also appreciated the follow up email I received the next day after my dogs appointment ensuring the treatment was going well and they were able to answer a questions I had regarding the treatment. Highly recommend for anyone in the downtown area.”

VCA Canada Downtown Animal Hospital

Address: 579 Church St
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Friday—8 am to 9 pm
- Saturday—9 am to 9 pm
- Sunday—9 am to 7 pm
Contact Number: +14169665122
Another great vet clinic downtown is the VCA Canada Downtown Animal Hospital. It’s located right by Church Street, with several parking lots nearby.
I like their variety of services here. They have a slew of medical and surgical services, such as spaying/neutering, annual diagnostics, and dentistry. They also have prevention procedures like flea and heartworm prevention and nutritional counselling.
Another thing worth highlighting is that this clinic is fear-free, which means the vets here are trained to reduce fear, anxiety, and stress in their patients. As such, this spot is perfect for people with anxious and reactive pets.
Clients also told me how compassionate and understanding the vets are. One shared that she had to come here on short notice because of an unforeseen circumstance, and the vet didn’t mind it. He still treated her and her pet with genuine respect.
That said, I’ve heard some complaints from clients about the clinic sometimes trying to upsell by prescribing meds. This can be really annoying when unnecessary.
There’s also the issue of long wait times. One client shared that she had to wait 40 minutes for her appointment!

Compassionate and genuinely involved
“I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Eythan Walsh for seeing my dog yesterday on such short notice, especially when I couldn’t get a timely appointment with my regular veterinarian. Dr. Walsh was incredibly compassionate and genuinely involved in my pet’s care. I left the clinic with a smile on my face and peace of mind, knowing my dog was going to be OK. It’s refreshing to find a veterinarian who doesn’t rely on running test after test or piling on unnecessary expenses. Dr. Walsh clearly knew what he was doing—he focused on what mattered and didn’t waste time or money when it wasn’t needed. If you’re looking for a knowledgeable, compassionate vet who truly cares, look no further than Dr. Eythan Walsh.”

Kind and helpful staff
“I had to make an emergency appointment on Friday and I had never been to this vet before. The reception staff were so kind and helpful, they found a spot for me to get my cat seen. Upon entering, the receptionist with the red hair was warm and welcoming. They treated my cat very well, made us both feel comfortable, and eased my anxiety.”

Toronto North Animal Hospital

Address: 223 Sheppard Ave W, North York
Operating Hours:
- Saturday to Thursday—10 am to 11 pm
- Friday—10 am to 6 pm
Contact Number: +14165467493
TVS Hospitals Veterinary Clinic has two clinics in the GTA, and of the two, I hear more positive reviews for the Toronto North Animal Hospital, which is located in North York.
This animal hospital has your typical services like vaccination, diagnostics, and parasite prevention, but they also offer things that I rarely see in other clinics, such as entropion eye surgery. Their dental care, in particular, is comprehensive, which is impressive.
I also like that they offer same-day diagnosis, which is great because you don’t have to wait a long time to know what’s wrong with your pet. This service is only available for dogs and cats, though, but it’s still something.
The clinic is also open for an extended period of time every day, so they can deal with emergency cases if needed. Admittedly, they’re quite limited in what they can handle, but they will refer you to the right facility if your situation is dire.
The staff here is also friendly and compassionate, which clients appreciate. Sometimes, a vet or a receptionist would even stay in touch with the client, asking them if the animal is doing okay and the like. This is such a lovely gesture.

Honest and considerate
“Took my cat Mac for an emergency check up since it seemed like he might have swallowed something and he sounded different and looked like he was constantly trying to swallow something. I called 3 more clinics prior to that, but Toronto North Animal Hospital was the only one with emergency appointment available. They scheduled me within 45 minutes of calling. He was given a couple of injections, but I wasn’t pushed to have blood test and x-ray right away. I am asked to monitor my cat’s condition for 48 hours before any further tests. Really appreciate the honesty and integrity. Also got a $25 discount since it was my first time. Thank you so much for your kind service!”

Exceptional care
“I’m truly grateful for the exceptional care my dog always receives here. Dr. Tamjidi is not only highly knowledgeable and professional, but also incredibly kind and compassionate. Every visit, my dog is treated with patience, love, and respect, which makes all the difference. It gives me peace of mind knowing my furry friend is in such good hands. I couldn’t ask for a better veterinarian – thank you for always going above and beyond!”

Kahu Animal Hospital

Address: 152 Davenport Rd
Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—8 am to 10 pm
Contact Number: +16475265248
Kahu Animal Hospital is pretty underrated, but it deserves hype, in my humble opinion. The clinic itself is clean and smells great, and the doctors and other staff members are warm and friendly, making patients feel at ease.
Their array of medical services is pretty decent, too. You can get the usual services like cardiology, preventative care, ultrasound, radiology, and surgery, but they also have other offerings that you don’t normally see in any other clinic.
For example, you can actually get your dog checked for behavioural issues and even have someone train them right here! You can even adopt a furbaby here as well.
If you don’t have time to go to the clinic, you can still have your consultation because this place offers telemedicine. Alternatively, you can also book a house call so that a vet will come to your house to check up on your pet instead of the other way around.

Immaculate clinic, understanding doctors
“I cannot express how AMAZING Kahu is! We had a little emergency with our pup and we were extremely lucky they were able to squeeze us in last minute and see us within an hour of our call. Our experience was from start to finish was fantastic, from the moment we called, Colleen was so understanding and compassionate – honestly her voice is so calming it made us feel at ease before we even arrived. The location is immaculate, I don’t think I have ever been to a vet that has such a clean environment and smelled great. Every single staff member was super friendly and gave our pup the attention he wanted and needed, I honestly think him just being there made him feel better overall. Dr. Mark Dilworth went over everything with us in great detail, answered all of our questions honestly which we really appreciated and was exactly what we are looking for. It is safe to say we have found our vet and we will definitely be returning for future appointments. (*I would also like to add, let the fact that this location as straight 5 stars be a sign that this is the place you need to go – if they also treated humans I would be going here myself!!) – Thank you KAHU, our pup is feeling MUCH better all thanks to ALL of you, we could not be more grateful!”
